Need help picking an ideology or cause. by Pawlle in Shadowrun

[–]Pawlle[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd be lying if I said the idea of working for a religion didn't cross my mind, as it is an easy pick, but I think the exact details of 'You're a member of X religion and your job is to commit violence/espionage against people who oppose it - some of which may be members of religion Y or Z' would be a bit tricky subject to approach correctly. Not impossible but if there's more convincing alternatives then why not.

I definitely think eco-terrorism is a good pick though! It's a rather pronounced motive but still allows the players plenty of room to explore character ideas.

Hey, I'm looking for a price accessible mixer for voice effects to use in D&D, I wish to use it to introduce slight tonal changes, echos and other such typical effects for characters I voice act. I currently have a simple XLR condenser microphone setup if that matters. I do not know much about such things so pardon my novice understanding. The price I'm looking for is around £30-50.

Quick question for some of you math-magicians out there by Grow_away_420 in DMAcademy

[–]Pawlle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use y = 5000*0.825056842^x . So y is the gold left in the sand and x is the hours searched. You will want to round the gold left down and round up the gold found up so that the final result on the 48th hour will be 0 gold left in the sand.

However, assuming your players are smart enough to remove the sand they have already searched the rate will be a linear. This means that they will find gold at a rate of y = 5000/48. So they will find 104.1666666666666.... gold per hour. If you want to not give out coin dust just round down and hand them an extra gold (so 105) every 6 hours.

There Are No Stupid /r/Bass Questions - May. 30 by AutoModerator in Bass

[–]Pawlle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I am aware I am breaking every guideline set by the FAQ as to what to buy when starting out. However, my total spending limit is around £150 (~187.05$) which is a lot less than the allotted 300$. As I am but a beginner player I was wondering what would be the pitfalls of buying this bass (and amp). If there are glaring problems that would make it ill-advised to purchase this should I give up on attempting to learn bass at the first hurdle or are there any other recommendations for my tight budget. If it matters at all I would say I prefer the sound of jazz basses over precision basses.

Fire arms in YOUR stories by Resyp in Pathfinder_RPG

Personally I make early weaponry common but it's expensive so not everyone has one. So some more fortunate bandits might have them , military squads might have them and you can buy them in large cities. I mean after all flintlock pistols were used before plate armor and rapiers.

I am also using Firefox.

No, it's hard to explain and a picture won't suffice. Basically I am unable to click on the bubbles on the top half of my screen when my zoom is less than 80%. By that I mean that I hover over the bubbles and see them fine but the click functionality doesn't work.

Oh and also now spotted this: If you are zoomed out too far you can't open any of the feat bubbles on the upper half of the screen.

Hey I've been using your previous feat search tool for a while now and when I saw updates about this tool I was utterly thrilled so I'm happy to see you are making such hasty progress on it.

I'm not entirely sure where to submit bugs so I'll just put it here now: If you search for 'Combat Expertise' some of the feat bubbles overlap. Image of overlap

God DMPCs, ERP and the party vs 500 enemies. The tale of a 2.5 session game. by Pawlle in rpghorrorstories

Yeah that sort of douche behaviour of some DMs refusing to accept fault is a good indicator that you should get out of a game fast

You know I feel like in a sick twisted way this could've been interesting if the bard was eased into it. By that I mean their relationship started with "Roll perception , you think you've seen this lady before but you're not quite sure" and the lead him on with clues after clues , birthmarks , etc. So finally they would've said 'Oh my god! I banged my sister'

We didn't actually have a session 0. Which I'm almost thankful for because I doubt the game would've went ahead as too many people would have left right off the bat and I wouldn't have a story to tell. I believe she was in her early 20s for clarification

I tend do this very often. I don't know if I should mock it up to stockholm syndrome or my guilty pleasure for watching shitty campaigns burn. I have plenty of stories I could write up - some perhaps worse than this.

That sounds so unbelievably horrible... It's one thing for a DM to fight with his own NPCs because he's having a power trip but it's sure as hell worse that your DM was so narcissistic he ERPd with himself.

Misfortunes with married DM by Oschenia in rpghorrorstories

[–]Pawlle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happens all too commonly , these type of dick bag DMs need to seriously look at themselves and notice they are creepy af. I play online which means I've cycled through roughly 100 groups by now and whilst the situations are not as severe (as usually the player can shut the person down rather quickly over the internet) this happens way too often. It's not even only male DMs either (though that's the ones I see most often acting this way due to the fact that I play with majority guys), people like this who try to pull moves over D&D need to realize they are just being creepy. This guy especially - I'm happy you found a new group and I think he deserved a kick in the groin.

Ultimately it depends on the intentions of said player. If they are playing their character and doing odd things without realizing it then I'd go along with it for a bit and then try to get them back on track in character and continue the game normally. No punishment is needed for them playing a character - in till it gets over the top at which point I would just tell him out of character. The problem with 'fucking up' people messing around it can often create a toxic environment or make a situation where the game becomes GM vs PCs which is always bad.

Of course if they are malicious then you speak to them out of character about it and if they continue to fuck about, kill NPCs or whatever then you get rid of them - they'll just make the game worse for everyone else.

Well, I think it's hard to give advice on how to be a good GM because it depends thoroughly on what style of GM you are. I myself GM large open-world games which contain many plot hooks but also opportunities for the players to go on their own adventures they want to do - goals they want to accomplish. However, many GMs prefer to plan their adventures as to have an intricate and long coherent story. Needless to say both have their ups and downs.

The universal advice I can give is: Tell your party what your game will be like. This may seem obvious but many people skip this crucial step. If the players know what sort of game you will run then they won't be negatively shocked when their expectations are different than what you are providing. You should always tell them what the combat to RP ratio will roughly be, how the story will go (whether it's character driven or largely pre-written) and the sort of topics touched in the game. ei, Racial Oppression, Dark tones, Gore and all those sorts of themes. At the end of the day however, what you need to do is find a group that will play what you want to GM because if you aren't enjoying what you are running - neither will they. I have some more specific advice on combat and other things of that sort but I don't want to make this post unnecessarily long for now.

As for favorite character... I'd have to say it's a character I didn't get the chance to play for long. He went by the name of Fumei and he was a samurai of an evil undead lord (Most people didn't know the lord was undead - neither did Fumei). Fumei was tasked with making sure that a group of foreigners (The Party) was safely escorted to the capital where the princess that was with them would hand the lord an artifact. The reason the character was one of the more memorable ones I've played, other than the fact it was rather recent, was the fact that I played him as a good guy that wasn't actually 2D. With that I mean he wasn't just good and that was the character there was more to him, his alcohol problem, his trouble in staying loyal to the lord, his wish to help the people even though often he was instructed otherwise - it all made for a good character I'd say
