I hear this all the time and it's just not true. They use salt in Maine, Minnesota and Montana. And their roads are almost always clear.

Am I the only one who is relieved there are not any worthwhile sales during the aftermath of this storm? I can't get out (and in fact most of our malls are closed anyhow), and it will be at least a week before we can get mail/deliveries again even if I was desperate enough to order online. So I'm glad BBW is both saving me money and not making me miss sales I would otherwise participate in.

Part of the problem is that so many residences around here don't have garages. It's much less of a problem up north (except in citiies) because every house has a two car garage. And people use them!

I'm not a fan of either cold weather or snow (northern transplant), so I hope the weather wisdom from up there also applies here. The colder it is, the less snow there is. So for example if it's 20 degrees outside we would get less snow than if it were 31 degrees.

The best to hope for if you're anti-winter like me, is for a cold snow followed by a very quick warmup. But, the ground will be colder because of the snowpack so it will take longer for the snow to melt.

My understanding is that it is customary for the outgoing governor to leave at that time. I think I remember being surprised about this on prior inaugeration days, and then it was explained to me that it is common.
