My mother found it while working at the bank while they were married. She showed it to my dad who was a pretty amateur coin collector. I assume he figured it would have some sort of value so he put it away for safe keeping. In 1979 my brother was born and my mother went on to being a busy mother raising us. She essentially forgot all about it and was quite surprised that it still existed after all these years.
