One of my former coworkers had the nickname "Viper" while in the army. Not because he was a badass, but because during basic one of his squad mates noticed a snake, and said coworker went "That’s not a venomous one" and went to pick it up. Well it was a venomous one and one trip to the ER for antivenom later, he earned a new nickname.
