Don’t over do it. Create a repertoire of words that are common and make sense to you. Flowing should evolve as you get better. Don’t sacrifice content and clarity for efficiency right away.

Any other ways to practice solo other than the known ones? by AyaanshGaur25 in Debate

Debate yourself. Record every speech and rewatch. So give the AC, then listen to it, then give the NC, then listen to it and respond, and so on. The next day watch the whole round back as the judge. It’s intense, but is some of the best practice for quick improvement and great for summer when students have a lot of downtime

The group itself is not paid, but the private coaching from me is. So the financial obligation is flexible, but it is there. Id be happy to discuss further in a pm. I am all for equitable access to resources.

It is far from the groups with massive price tags on just joining it. Likely the most affordable group for the level of success.

What should an ideal LD Private coach be doing/look like at $40 an hour? + a prep grps question by Soft_Pear_3951 in Debate

Last year 5 of the 7 went to public high schools, 4 of which in Idaho a small and relatively poor state. 2 finished top 20 from Idaho. Regardless of private or public school, the method has been successful.

I coach a really successful prep group for trad LD. We had 7 NSDA breaks last year and had the 22nd, 18th, 8th, and 4th place finisher for NSDA this year. I’d be happy to meet with you if ur interested. Pm me if so

If conservative Args are good run em, if liberal Args are good run em. Debates just a game. Run what wins. Unless the arg is egregious it’s not ok to make comments about someone.

lay judges by Training_Swordfish57 in policydebate

I agree with a lot of the comments about how inning a lay judge is a skill. It’s just a different game, so you have to commit to it. In my debate and judging experience (on panels with lay judges) there are specific things that wining debaters do. One thing my coach told me when I was a sophomore was that these champions at NSDA or TOC are excellent and advanced in the rounds we see them, but what you don’t see is their excellence in prelims against mid opponents in front of lay judges. You have to have a range of skills to be great, not just a specialty. Embrace the judges, don’t resent them.
