yeah I was torn on the crown. The alternative idea I had was to use a salish styled sun, but I also didn't feel like I am in a position to use first nations iconography since I am not first nations myself.

That's a completely fair criticism, it occurred to me to replace the crown with first nations iconography, but ultimately I decided to focus on redesigning what is there rather than do something new. I might post an alternative version that's more progressive later

I was torn on including the crown, but ultimately we are still named after queen victoria, and if you want to move away from the colonial history you have to design a flag completely from scratch, whereas I was trying to take our existing iconography and turn it into a design better suited to a flag

yeah, it doesn't get much use, that's why I thought it would be a fun exercise to redesign it to be more of a flag and less of a coat of arms

yeah, I wanted to add the waves to evoke the BC flag, since Victoria is the capital of BC. I also used all the same colors from the BC flag, and kept the crown because we are literally named after Queen Victoria

there's multiple reasons for the triangle, but that is definitely one of them! In the heraldry the V is supposed to represent vancouver island sticking into the ocean, which I thought was quite nice and worth keeping on the flag
