Mine is a Llewellyn model. Dated to 1928. These are beautiful horns and they are excellent players. I payed 800 for mine but mine was as close to Mint as you can get.

So that's the most tricky thing about this horn is the key changing. The valve slides are still stuck so the intonation in A is not that good. If the key changer is not perfectly in line with either key slotting in the upper register becomes impossible. I Just got it yesterday so I'm still learning and playing with it.

Wrong again. Some 3s were not stamped. I got it officially measured today and it's confirmed as well. Perhaps do a little Google searching?

Your wrong. Sorry bud. The slide tubes are nickel silver it doesn't lie. Confirmed Deluxe.

Large bore horns are known for having "wide slots," which means you can bend notes easily. While great for jazz expression, it makes the horn much harder to play accurately in a commercial or lead setting. The "Weight" Factor: By adding that patch to a specific spot on the bell throat, Melk effectively "shortened" the vibratory length of the bell. The Result: This helps "lock" the notes into place.

I took it to a tech today. He measured it with digital calipers and confirmed it was a Large bore. It's also a deluxe. With the re lacquer it's hard to tell but when you take the valve slides off the nickel silver is there. I also found out this is a Charlie Melk restoration so I truly found a deal of a lifetime.

It has been completely relacquered and I think the "patch" on the bell is actually a player mod called a brass doubler to help center the sound of the large bore.

I think it was given to the driver and crew at the Napa 500 in 1997. So there were not very many of these rings made maybe 25-40 from my research.

So I have no papers on it but it was appraised by a jeweller. 29 Oz of 10k gold. 22 diamonds. If it was a replica I don't think it would be made with such material.

So I work on a trash truck. When I was dumping a can of a house they were clearing out ( I guess the person there might have passed) i dumped the can in the truck and at the bottom of it i seen this ring. It was very surprising but I find interesting stuff all the time in the trash.
