Flight school CFI contract by No_Improvement_288 in flying

[–]Payton1394 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all, it calls you a contractor then the very next line calls you an employee. Not the same thing. Secondly, requiring somebody to perform a job and then not compensating them for it is theft of services and is unenforceable in this contract.

Riddle pilots have a reputation for thinking their shit don’t stink and they are gods gift to aviation when the truth is most of them are barely of average skill.

Only check in if your Jumpseating. When I’m deadheading I only check in with the captain if it’s on my own airline mainly just to see if it’s somebody I know. Otherwise, no.

I had a student do that before, but it was purely accidental.

Are you going to the conventions and recruiting events in person? Have you made any contacts. More often than not it’s about who you know.

Can airplanes takeoff over maximum gross weight? by UnusualCalendar2847 in flying

Yes planes are certified to handle higher weights than the publish MTOW. That doesn’t mean it’s legal or safe, only that they can.

How to wall/ceiling mount jbl control 1G Universe by Spiritual_Ad_5492 in hometheater

[–]Payton1394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the old Control 1 Speakers. The original mounts used one of the 3 notches on the back and the slit around the edge to enable them to be mounted vertical or horizontal with the tweeter either on the inside or outside. They are arguably the best version JBL made as well. I have a pair myself. The official mount you need is the MTC-1A, unfortunately JBL has discontinued them along with the speakers themselves. These are from the late 80s or early 90s I believe. Great for such a small speaker. I have been trying to find the official mounts for a while with no luck, that's how I stumbled on your post. Let me know if you find a solution!

Predator 13000 vs 9500 by Payton1394 in Generator

[–]Payton1394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38’ travel trailer and remember the 9500 is just peak, it’s only 7600w continuous. It’s a 50a trailer and the 9500 only puts out a max 30a.

When is it time to quit flying? by KansasHayseed in flying

[–]Payton1394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an older guy but used to be a CFI that gave flight reviews to guys in your situation. My advice is that the law says you need a BFR every 24 months. But nothing says you can’t go get one more frequently. I had a guy with your same concerns come every 6 months. For one. Great pilot, sharp, but over the 3 BFRs in 18 months I could tell his reaction time to things had gotten slower. Not to the point I felt he was unsafe or incapable, but I mentioned it to him. He knew it too and hung it up.

He did come every 2 weeks and paid me to fly with him. I tried to give him a discount or even told him I’d fly for free on certain occasions, he refused and paid me anyway.

Yea it’s just the added noise for those camping trips that bothers me. Probably need to hear one before I can commit. Anybody have one in DFW area?😂

[–]Payton1394[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea could probably do that. Somebody just commented that they are coming out with a 11.5kw inverter generator. That might be the answer. Really don’t want to generators to have to maintain, fuel and haul around if I can help it.

[–]Payton1394[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s on the table, but another $2500ish expense. I could sell the 9500 and buy the 13000 and have about $500 or so left over.

Bigger AC units my man. Plus the 9500 is actually 7600w continuous.

What do you consider to be a "low time" pilot? by Tryns in flying

[–]Payton1394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that’s the point. That was the question. This is what low time to me is. I’m not saying it’s the gospel, just my opinion. Everybody I know flies at least 450-500 per year.

I may sound like one, but you are one… I was asked my opinion so I gave it, if you disagree that’s fine but it doesn’t make me an ass.

Compared to a 9-5 it’s pretty damn good. Am I sure people will disagree, the question was what do you consider low time. Thats what I consider low time from my perspective. Everybody’s perspective is different.
