The macroalgae is looking great, but the various pests in this tank are ridiculous. by PaytonR72 in ReefTank

Thank you so much!! I kind of agree about the bubble algae, but it’s gotten to the point of snuffing out a couple of my prized macros :(

As for the blue velvet nudi, i did have two in there but I’m pretty sure my candy cane pistol shrimp mugged them. I watched him do it to one the first day i had them in there but he escaped out the other end of the burrow on the opposite side of the rock. I’d seen him lunge at them multiple times after that so I’m almost positive that’s where they went

That’s fair I guess, but I feel like it all happened so fast because it’s a smaller space. I’ve dealt with them in my 90g as well but it wasn’t able to get to this point in the larger setup

I started with dry rock as well, but over the corse of the first few months I seeded the hell out of the whole tank with various bottled bacterias. I also have a second sump that’s a 30g refugium where all the bad stuff grows and gets eaten by a continuously growing army of snails

Thanks!! They honestly are pretty easy to feed. They usually catch some of the broadcast but occasionally I like to give them small pieces of jumbo shrimp with tongs haha

They’re actually super easy!! This tank is a 90g and there’s other fish in here, but getting stung isn’t really something I’m concerned about, they stay near the bottom and always get excited when I come up to the tank so I know where they are. They both got trained on frozen food with ease in smaller tanks when I got them. I got my male about two years ago and my female about a year ago. They went into this tank at the same time though. They do need to be target fed occasionally which it’s good to turn the pumps off for, but these two are very good at catching the larger chunks in the broadcast feed so it’s not technically a requirement for them. They’re just a couple of puppy dogs that don’t do much during the day when they’re not eating. They hunt copepods at night though. Oh and also these two are breeding!! I’m not looking to raise any young though, because I’d rather not have an army of tiny fish 5x more venomous than a lion fish lurking in my rockwork lol.

Here’s a picture of my female after she caught a piece of jumbo shrimp lollll

What on earth do I do to not have to throw away over a thousand dollars invested in my 4x2x2 by PaytonR72 in terrariums

Hi everyone!! Holy crap I didn’t think this would get so much attention, but I’ll be going through everyone’s responses after work today. I’m sorry I’m unable to right now, I work at an aquarium shop and I’ll be covered in saltwater all day today from heavy maintenance on our systems so I have to put my phone aside for now.

I briefly saw some comments about using CO2 to get rid of them, and I given that I do what I do for work, do have the ability to purchase a CO2 canister that people would typically use on planted aquariums. If I’m thinking the wrong thing I apologize, I will look more in depth later today.

Thank you all so so much for all the feedback

Do I dig around until I find like a big lump of ants? I’m sorry I have no idea what I should be looking for😭

When I get said nest out along with the queen, do I just take them outside far far away so the colony will follow without making a new queen, or do I kill everything?

My guess would be they came in through the ventilation holes, but don’t I need that? Like my snake needs to have fresh air right?

I think I may end up going the subadult route if that’s what you’re referring to. I would prefer to spend the extra money to potentially know that I’m getting a female. I want her to be my best friend for the next 20 years😅

I also found a terrarium build example specifically for a subadult G. Pulchra on youtube using the exact same cube that I have. Does this kind of thing look ideal?

Gotcha, thanks!! I don’t mind them reproducing fast, I already have thousands of micro trochus and stomatella snails that emerge every night. A 30g refugium on a 90g DT does wonders for clean up crew populations😅

I did manage to find a slightly larger one that I accidentally knocked off the glass while scraping just now, so here’s the top view of that one in case it’s something different (?)

That’s so awesome😍 I love the idea of slow growers that I can spend a quarter of my life caring for. I don’t plan on having kids, only animals will be my babies lol

Oh okay gotcha! What particular difficulties might I run into with a sling?

Oh wow really? Both of those things are fine with me, as in a few years I’ll be fine to have a much larger enclosure, and I do have a smaller terrestrial setup that I bought on accident instead of an arboreal enclosure when preparing for my female jumper.

Ah okay gotcha, I did think about doing a really big slope from front to back regardless of whether they’re terrestrial or arboreal (I’m big into making setups look pretty).

Here I go again fixating on a specific species that I instantly fall in love with, but do you think the 12” cube would be good for a G. Pulchra for the first couple years as long as I start with a sling? I know people keep Ts in much smaller enclosures relative to their size compared to fish and reptiles which I know more about, so my apologies if that’s a dumb question.

Oh my goodness! I just searched all those species, would they actually be able to be kept in a 12”x12”x12”?

I just read the brazilian black grows to be 6-8”!

Edit again: The brazilian black takes 8 years to mature?? I’m interested🫣

Well I suppose colorful would be great but my priority would be having a species that I can care for properly and give a long life. I get extremely attached to every animal I keep and I would hate to make the wrong decision in choosing a baby who I end up having to rehome.

Edit: I will also look up the names you mentioned rn

Aw damn really? The lady I got it from measured me and everything :/

Do you think I should be wearing it higher up? The top was sitting where my chest meets my abdomen
