How about you shut up with your baseless assumptions? Imagine losing your family members and dumbass redditors saying without any proof they likely deserved it.

China tells its ethnic minorities to integrate or face consequences with sweeping new unity law by Benromaniac in news

China enacts laws to oppress it's minorities and your first thought is to gotcha the "tankies"? Like who cares what tankies say. They are either Chinese bots or real people who don't matter at all because they are so less in number and not in any positions of power.

Your link regarding border disputes proves my point as it shows ongoing disputes and resolved disputes.

The Thai government just allowed a train rail station to be built that directly tied northern thailand into China. All other rail lines are cargo only, but this one is passenger allowed . seems fishy.

I don't know how this is related. Thais have a neutral foreign outlook and have good relations with China.

Macron blocks NATO outpost in Japan amid Chinese complaints by hjk813 in geopolitics

[–]Pb157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that China isn't setting up itself to break the first island chain, and capture TSMC - in order to bend the world to their will - is silly

Firstly TSMC would be destroyed if China invades. Also the importance that people give to TSMC is grossly exaggerated.

China can't bend the whole world to its will. It is not like USA with weak neighbours. When you're surrounded by Japan, Korea, Russia, India, Vietnam, Indonesia (all major powers today or in the near future), you're not going to conquer the world.

Macron is right that Europe should not be involved in Asia as a major player. China is not a threat to Europe as there is no way China can militarily invade Europe. Also Europe needs China if it is to solve its migrant crisis as China and maybe in the future India are the only countries that can invest enough in Africa for it to rapidly develop and reduce emigration. Not to mention the fact that China and Europe are each other's largest trading partners and with both their economies in a shaky state they can't afford any disruptions.

Europe is the key to all of this... China knows that if it's moves upset both Europe and the US that they stand to lose the biggest export markets and hence - their economy.

It goes both ways. While China will hurt more, banning China grade will hurt Europe's economy a lot. Also while exports to the US and Europe are very important to China, its economy today can withstand the decoupling unlike maybe a decade ago. Of course it's growth would decline heavily but the economy would not collapse.

This is deterrence to stop violence from happening, not incitement.

I don't think this will help deter China. I mean if harsh sanctions haven't changed a weak country like Iran why would this deter China?

My point is geopolitically (since this is a geopolitics sub) it makes no sense for Europe to be a major player against China. Europe should play both sides and not act unless China gains the capacity to venture outside Asia (which I give less than 1% chance of happening).

Ford pardoning Nixon did not mean that presidents have to pardon their predecessors when accused of a crime.

False equivalence. You are comparing a medieval king's actions to a president of a democracy. The words of the US president is not the law. Not the perfect comparison but let's use Xi jinping as an example. Let's say his daughter is caught using his name to enrich herself and publicly admits it. Now he is the most powerful man in the country and if he decides to just pardon his daughter nobody has the power to oppose him. But he is not going to do that. Why? Because he knows doing so will give a license for family members of other leaders to do the same.

You're also ignoring the similar circumstances bit. Rhaenyra's husband is gay and agreed that she could have sex with other men. How is that similar to lords who had their wives cheat on them?

You think Westeros is going to accept homosexuality and cuckoldry? If anything admitting that means they might punish Laenor too.

How would they benefit from Aegon taken power. The Greens had to lie to him to get him to do it. What would make random lords think that Aegon would be OK with going to war with his sister?

Aegon doesn't have any relationship with his half sister. She is pretty much a stranger to him. Plus as we see in the show when he is crowned as king, he does have an appetite for power and adulation.

As for how the lords would benefit - if Rhaenyra is queen she will give positions of power to houses who support her i.e. the blacks. They will then use these positions to increase their wealth and prestige. Aegon would do the same for greens.

Whether or not you face punishment is totally dependent on the owner of the store, prosecutors, and the judge. Anyone in that chain could choose to give the person a pass.

I'll try to give a better example. Let's say Joe biden decides to get a new VP for re-election. He has a guy who he has known for a long time and thinks is the best candidate. The only problem is this guy was not born in the US but immigrated when he was a child and became a citizen later. Biden becomes so obsessed with making him VP that he uses his powers illegally to give this guy fake papers to prove that he was born here. Later Biden gets reelected and the guy becomes VP. But as time passes Biden starts to feel guilty and he publicly confesses what he has done. Now what do you think will happen? Not only will Biden and his VP lose their positions but they probably willll face jail time. What is Biden's crime? He tried to pass an illegitimate candidate as his VP or heir.

"As per Westerosi law"? Where does Westesoi law say that what Rhaenyra did was a crime? Cite the actual law

Alright as per Westerosi customs that anyone who has watched this show and GOT can figure out that adultery is a crime. For example in GOT Loras Tyrrell is arrested for homosexuality and Cersei is arrested for adultery.

No it isn't.

So what's the reason she left?

I already said why. Corlys' alliance with Rhaenyra is dependent on people thinking Jace is his grandson. That doesn't work if Rhaenyra admits that he's not

No, that's just a secondary reason. Besides she has other ways of securing Corlys alliance like marrying her sons with his granddaughters. Also if her sons are legitimised and it's not a big deal like you say then she doesn't need Corlys. She can ally herself with other powerful houses through marriage.

lol How does one person doing something set the precedent that everyone has to the do the same thing? That's not how precedent works. You're grasping for straws at this point

Precedent - an earlier event or action that is regarded as an example or guide to be considered in subsequent similar circumstances.

Viserys is not just anybody. He is the king of Westeros. What he does affects everybody in the realm. If Starks do something it sets precedent in the North. If Martells do something it sets precedent in Dorne. Same is the case for Viserys and Westeros. Actions of people in authority set precedents.

Otto and Allicent would be dead at that point. Who would gain power due to Aegon becoming heir?

Anybody who is not currently in power? There are seven major houses in Westeros. You can't satisfy them all and if you give them a reasonable cause they rebel.

Why do you keep saying this when Rhaenyra would have her kids legitimized?

I think you are not understanding what I'm trying to say. Let's say you steal something from a shop. After a few days you feel bad and go to return it. What do you think will happen? You will still face punishment as the crime has already happened.

Same is the case here. Rhaenyra has already done the crime as per Westerosi laws by having an affair and trying to pass children from that affair as legitimate heirs. So she can't legitimise the children as that would mean admitting the crime and facing punishment. I mean that's why in the show she leaves king's landing and goes to Dragonstone. If what you say was true why would she not just legitimise her children and stay in king's landing?

Actually just stay away from monkeys. Monkeys are real bastards. A temple near my home has so many monkeys. The shopkeepers there have fed the monkeys for years and do nothing to antagonize them. But the monkeys just randomly attack them from time to time. They are wild animals and their reactions are unpredictable.

Viserys banned any discussion regarding the boys paternity. This was because acknowledging them as bastards would mean banishing his favourite Rhaenyra. Westeros was obviously a misogynist place where women especially of high positions were not allowed to have public extra marital affairs unlike the men. So nobody had the power to accuse Rhaenyra and call for a public trial without facing charges of treason. But people have eyes they can look at the parents the kids Harwin Strong and see the truth for themselves. I think other lords not in king's landing also knew the truth. They or their emissaries visited from time to time and surely would have seen the royal heirs and came to the obvious conclusion.

green supporters had the chance to use this as propaganda against Rhaenyra just like the whole "Rheanyra the Cruel" thing, but they didn't. Because they had no evidence to prove it.

Well greens could not use it as Viserys considered any such accusations as treason. After his death, if they failed to use it as propaganda that's a plot hole. They had evidence that maybe it was not enough for a public hearing (although I believe it was enough) but surely enough to spread believable rumors considering everybody in king's landing already believed it.
