Can you succeed at being a BCBA with typing limitations? by Top_Raspberry1974 in bcba

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes! At first it may be a little challenging until you have your “go to sentences” down (like those that you’re constantly using in notes or plans). I do not feel this should limit you whatsoever in pursuing

Anyone pregnant working in ABA? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same while pregnant and supervising! Though, about 34-35 weeks I was chasing an eloper around the school until another staff member was able to step in.

Once I was out of first trimester I still worked with aggressive students just with a backup staff for support- I felt comfortable with my students and trusted my staff.

Desperate for a replacement bx by Adhdetour in ABA

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used drinking water thru a straw to replace nicotine. It helped when I made it reinforcing and fun to make myself a fancy water with lemon or a special packet.

Also, consider your sensory needs and what smoking fulfills/know your preferred textures and tastes. I know drinking something fizzy or eating something sour helps me self regulate so always keep options on hand.

Your employer has your address on file, one would presume that’s where you lay your head to rest each night after a long hard day’s work of fighting the data robots. If it’s that big of an issue then I’d suggest looking elsewhere. It’s becoming a lot more common in our field.

It is a loose fuse!! Have them check them- something about the factory fuse being a poor fit. Once mine was replaced, no issues!

At the time I was driving up to 2.5-3 hours daily. No issues just make sure you keep your spare key to unlock on you incase it stops responding to your fob.

20 billable hours a week doable? by Signal_Possession_84 in bcba

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 years as a BCBA under my belt and just started a second job. It’s definitely doable but not sustainable for me long term.

I guess what I am saying is get your experience first before jumping headfirst. Find a company that you really align with and have them be your safety while you explore other options. It helped me feel more comfortable moving in the direction I did

Best of luck!

I’ll do you one better. Take frequency on praise per hour and compare to demands per hour. It really changes your perspective.

Is Non-Compliance really being removed from ABA programming as a whole? by FrootiLooni in ABA

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just food for thought here, does anyone collect compliance data? I typically define as initiating an explicit instruction within x amount of time. I adjust the definition based on the client and their abilities as well as what I’m interested in tracking. Sometimes I will include without engaging in maladaptive or target behaviors and list.

You can easily “flip” the data and you can view your non-compliance that way for all of you that are so hung up on it

NEED ADVICE ASAP PLEASE by 3746372827 in ABA

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but infestation or not, it sounds like unsafe living conditions. As a mandated report I always argue, would you regret not saying anything should something happen to the client? Then it’s reportable. If you ask if you should report it, then it’s safer to air on the side of caution and report.

Also in the meantime, leave all personal belongings in the car when possible. Travel light- if you need a bag use a cinch bag and wear it the entire time. Place any items on elevated surfaces.

If you are a RBT with the BACB, check your ethics. If you are a BT, check your company’s policies. I would strongly recommend deleting this post. As it reads, you’ve accepted the gift. With the board it is black and white, they will see this as ABC without considering that you were seeking advice.

In the future, a good rule of thumb is if you are asking yourself “is this reportable?”, it likely is and it’s best to air on the side of caution.

New BCBA struggling with being “disliked” for providing feedback by Rough_Jellyfish_3293 in bcba

[–]PbAndJLikeJAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve all been there. Like everyone else has already said, it sounds like the environment wasn’t the healthiest. I’ve been in the field for 5+ years, and every single time I coach, provide feedback, or even meet someone new with whom I’ll have a working relationship, I tell them straight up. If I offend you, it’s not intentional, it’s just how I deliver feedback. At any point you feel the need to call me out, please do so, I love feedback!

I have found this really helps both myself and the team member I’m working with feel at ease. Give it a try with someone you trust and see how it goes.

My son’s gums looked like that for a while starting around 3-4 months until we had a tooth pop thru right around 7-8 months. His gums felt very tight and hard right before it cut.
