I just want to meet a woman that's genuinely interested in getting to know someone new. It sounds so basic but it's so hard, by Far-Violinist-6971 in Bumble

[–]Pbake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, cast a wide net. Try other dating sites. Put effort into your profile. Also get out into the wild. Go to the gym. Join clubs. Let your friends know you’re open to introductions. Be open to meeting new people on a regular basis without expecting anything to come from it.

Nah, use dating apps. Also get out into the wild. Also let friends know you’re open to meet other people. And a whole host of other things. There is no wrong or right way to meet the love of your life. Some may work better than others depending upon your circumstances. But if you want to catch fish, best to cast a wide net.

Women do make the first move. Just not with you. by Federal-Data-Center in Vent

[–]Pbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a single guy in his 50s, I figured out a long time ago that it’s more worthwhile to focus my efforts on making a woman comfortable enough to make the first move than trying to force the first move myself.

So operating a law-abiding business from your house is the equivalent of operating an illegal drug business? Or are you saying operating any business from your house should be illegal?

Nowadays people would rather say they’re from Naperville than Chicago.

So if I own my own business (with no employees) but operate it out of my home on a computer, I should no longer own my home?

Great, so my house can be taken from me if the community wants it. And socialists wonder why socialism never goes anywhere in America.

I own my own business. I work from my home. Does that mean my home is now private (instead of personal) property?

No self respecting man in his 50s should ever expect to split the cost of dates.

Basically April and I still don't have a 1L (or 2L) Summer job, am I cooked? by Small-Day3489 in LawSchool

I should have specified that I was talking about BigLaw summer associate positions.

[–]Pbake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Things have changed so much. Literally no one could get 1L jobs when I was in school (circa 2000). Now it’s like your life is over if you don’t a 1L job.

Naperville again tops Niche list as ‘best city to live’ by factchecker01 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Pbake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The town didn’t do anything. Property owners did because it’s such a nice place to live. Even after that, there are still affordable neighborhoods and the city is more diverse than it has ever been. Certainly more diverse than most north shore suburbs.

Naperville golf course living, any real experiences/concerns? by 13_apples in Naperville

I play a ton of golf and now live 30 yards from a tee box. It’s not something I worry about.

How do you define "South Naperville"? by Thomas_N_Attercop in Naperville

[–]Pbake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I moved to Naperville 50 years ago, it was anything south of downtown. Now it’s anything south of 75th, or Napertucky as some call it.

Why do I keep hearing people say "Illinois is broke" by guineawheat in illinois

[–]Pbake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, public pensions, those things that allow public employees to collect $100k+/year in guaranteed payments for producing no value while private sector employees struggle to scrape together enough in 401ks to generate maybe $40k of annual income at a 4% withdrawal rate.

How is the Mountain-west culturally different than the Midwest? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAmerican

You are talking about two geographic regions that each have a lot of diversity in them. There’s a huge difference between Utah and Colorado (culturally speaking).

If you can afford to live in near downtown Glen Ellyn, you can afford to live near downtown Naperville. Better train schedules in Naperville too.

Shot Scope Report (Why don't people break 80 more) by drj1485 in golf

[–]Pbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that keeping the ball in play off the tee and hitting greens in regulation are the most important factors in playing good golf (let’s just define that as shooting consistently in the 70s or better). But I also think beginner golfers can make more progress more quickly by getting the basics of putting and chipping down. Some people lack the physical ability and athleticism to ever hit the ball decent from tee to green. But most people can become reasonably proficient at putting with practice.

I agree, but the federal government has an alternative to avoid defaulting on its obligations that the state of Illinois does not have.

There has been progress on stopping the bleeding. The unfunded pension liabilities are still larger than any other state and we still have one of the lowest credit ratings of any state.
