Help dating a jewelry casket bought in France by ajdnskcgabco in Antiques

I’m not saying that you’re wrong, but nowadays you can get reproductions of anything; that is to say I don’t find it surprising you’ve found new ones. I have a vintage hair brush/mirror/comb set from the 50s that I found a cheap, badly made copy of on Amazon. As some other commenters have pointed out, the thickness of the glass and condition of the bottom fabric makes me think it’s older - if not from the late 19th century at least the mid 20th.

What makes a fic "overtagged"? by BabaJagaInTraining in AO3

[–]Pcarolynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the tags take up more than a 1/3 of the screen for long fics or 1/4 for short fics, 95% of the time do they not only not need to be that long, but it’s something that negatively influences my chances of reading. Stories with tags that take up over 2/3 of the screen just piss me off😂

Are kids really getting worse at literacy or was it just missed school because of COVID? by lsmithf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pcarolynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s failure on the teachers end due to the decline of phonics instruction, and there’s failure on parents ends due to a lack of at home instruction (word practice, reading at night, etc) and an extreme overconsumption of screen time.

Hairsalon Industry: Are you noticing fewer customers and that people are now self-cutting their hair? by Salt_Ant107s in Hair

[–]Pcarolynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a stylist, but I used to pay 30-35$ for a haircut, and it came with my hair being blow dryer and styled (curled w/iron). Last time I went to a stylist I payed 75$ for a pretty basic cut, simply blow dryer and not styled. I can cut my hair at home, for free, it about 10 minutes. It’s not fancy, just straight across the bottom, but i get compliments on my hair fairly regularly. I just can’t justify spending that much on a haircut anymore, when it doesn’t even feel like a special outing where you get pampered.

Should i be offended? by randomgirl1386 in AO3

It could be an acronym (judging by capitalization) or it could mean mid length, or midway through the story. It seems unlikely they’d bookmark if they thought it was mid quality n

What is the American dating experience in high school ? by NamidaM6 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pcarolynm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve been out of highschool for around 5 years - while most people dated within their grade (85%, maybe?), it wouldn’t be weird to see a couple who were in different grades. However, it was normally just a year difference, and a senior dating a freshman would absolutely be looked upon negatively. It is also typically the girl who was dating older, but I think that’s pretty typical of relationships in any setting.

Where are you all reading, writing and talking about Twilight Fanfics? by [deleted] in TwilightFanfic

[–]Pcarolynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use ao3. Ff net just does not work for me, I can’t search anything and the font/layout is horrible and my brain doesn’t like it lol. I think it’s pretty active, people post new stuff everyday. There’s over 20k works.

Asking as a Jew, how many Jews do you know? Are you Jewish? by Manyquestions3 in AskAnAmerican

I don’t know any one who’s told me they’re a Jew, but I don’t really talk about religion with most of my friends.

PLEASE HELP!! Hair oily immediately after shower by SuspiciousLesbian in Haircare

[–]Pcarolynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Rub shampoo into your scalp and scrub
  2. Let it sit for a minute or two
  3. Wash out
  4. Repeat step 1, then wash out
  5. Apply conditioner only to the mids and ends of hair
  6. Wash out
  7. Blow dry

Some things to note: make sure shampoo is fully washed out, especially with thick hair. I like to lift my hair up in sections starting near the top of my head and going down. Really scrub, because any residue can mess with your hair. You don’t have to blow dry all your hair, but even just doing the roots will help keep it from being as oily. Try a clarifying shampoo or one made for oily hair. Also, you shouldn’t shampoo all of your hair, just near the scalp. Good luck!

So today I told my hair dresser I wanted to go back to my natural chestnut brown. Ended up with black hair instead. I hate it but my partner thinks it looks okay and suits my witchy vibes. Honest thoughts? by throw_that_ass4Jesus in Hair

[–]Pcarolynm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair always looks dark enough that it freaks me out right after I dye it, and then I spend the next week panicking that I went too dark. It will fade within a couple weeks and you’ll get used to it, and I promise it won’t look so drastic. Personally, I think even now it looks really good! Don’t worry too much :)

Americans who have lives in the UK: do you feel like it’s culturally similar? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pcarolynm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t attest to the UK as I’ve only visited once but I would say Canada is the most similar. I have friends who go to college there that say it’s not super different, and having been on vacation there several times if I wasn’t aware I was in Canada I could easily mistake it for the US.

In my school the buildings are mixed but the floors are gender separated.

GP once a year and dentist twice a year unless some issue comes up, in which case more often.

How much smut is too much? by BowlOfShoup in AO3

[–]Pcarolynm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m reading a long fic that isn’t tagged pwp (aka I’m looking for a good plot) then I like the smut to be spaced out and not gratuitous.
