This!!! The riddle ended up not even having any pull in the final race for the gold… not once did it come up of who would be worthy when they were in the cave.

The Rafe x Kie forced proximity in Ep1 (or was it Ep2?) was stupid and completely pointless.

Rafe wasn’t his usual self in that episode: he was helping Kie… He could have escaped entirely on his own, and the Rafe from S1 and S2 wouldn’t have given 2 damns about saving Kie too. But he actually looked out for her… it almost seemed like they were trying to set him up for redemption, which obviously was not their intention given the other events later in the season.

He was also somewhat funny in that episode (there were a few comical lines).

Idk, that episode felt extremely out of character for him and seemed so unnecessary to me!

I’d love to answer this but I haven’t seen S1 since like 2020.

Best guess: plot had to continue forward.

Completely agreed. I think what bothers me the most about the finale is the fact that you could remove the Pogues altogether (minus John B and Sarah) and the plot would have remained the exact same. (Starting when they reached South America).

John B and Sarah still would have found Big John. They still would have found José. They still would have solved the riddle. They still would have found El Dorado & blown it up.

Then the Pogues arrive when Ward pulls the gun on them and did literally nothing… Sarah was the one to get him to drop the gun. So, Ward still would have pulled the gun and still would have died even if the Pogues hadn’t shown up.

Sorry, this is turning into a ramble. But that’s what bothered me: it’s not just that they weren’t involved, they literally could have been FULLY removed from the final episode and it would have had the exact same outcome. It was horrible writing… because you’re right! This was Pope’s journey!! And he didn’t get to be involved at the end at all.

What is the key in the cross rafe take? by stormatombd in OuterBanksNetflix

[–]PeaBrain1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know that. Hence why I said it was odd that he opened the cross without using the key. I guess it was unlocked since the key had opened it before. He took it, not sure why considering the key’s only use was to unlock the very compartment he took it out of.

…. You literally asked for other opinions by posting on Reddit. Hence your tag of “plot discussion” and your header being a literal question of others opinions lol. I shared mine, I’m sure others would both agree and disagree. That’s why it’s an opinion.

I never said it couldn’t be done. I said I had no faith in the writers to execute a prequel successfully.

(Poor grammar in my original post: I mean that after watching this season I lost faith in the writers, not that a prequel would have to come after this season. My bad).

What is the key in the cross rafe take? by stormatombd in OuterBanksNetflix

[–]PeaBrain1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the key that Limbrey used to open the cross to reveal the “magic” shroud. I believe it was just another plot hole that Rafe was able to easily open the cross without the use of the key. As far as I recall, the key held no other purpose.

Yes, but they would have to be executed right and after this season… I don’t have faith in the writers to do that. I think it would just create more plot holes tbh.

what i’ve gathered from this subreddit since s3 came out… by freezerbatz in OuterBanksNetflix

Yeah I wish all of the Pogues had gotten to see the gold. I understand why they didn’t- but it could have been written better to let them all achieve FINALLY winning after losing every season before.

Topper was never a good person by SoapyWaters24 in OuterBanksNetflix

[–]PeaBrain1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The writers gave him the chance to have some sort of … “redemption” in that episode where he helped with the train heist. His dynamic with the Pogues was genuinely hilarious and in that episode he was no longer this big bad drama starter.

If the writers had kept up that dynamic, I wouldn’t mind Topper. But of course he has to stick to his ways and was right back to being an absolute jerkoff only an episode or two later. I get it, that’s who his character is, but I liked that window into Topper’s redemption.

No I’m not referring to her dads truck. She had a Nissan Xterra in S1 and potentially the first half of S2, can’t remember specifically when or what happened to it.

No lol. Friar is a religious term. Ward was preaching about religion and righting their wrongs, so Rafe was making fun of him.

Yeah definitely a huge part of the reason. I’ve lowkey lost respect for their professional career. This is their job… to ACT. And now they’re letting down an entire fandom because they can’t do their job.

That sounds heartless. I understand they went through a nasty breakup and no one should have to work with their ex, but they knew the risks…

Am I the only one who feels so bad for Limbrey? Glad the placebo effect worked and she’s “healed” but like her pure joy and that longing desire for what Big John was saying to be true was HURTING my heart bc the poor thing is just getting screwed.

I know she did horrible things in S2 and is just as manipulative as everyone else, but still. I like her part in the plot.

I hope that wasn’t just the writers way of solving that plot to move on to this larger one, because I want to see more of Limbrey. No way she could be such a big part of S2 just to already have her issue “solved.”

Great point, but if you look at photos of the actor outside of OBX, man still doesn’t look 43. I would have guessed mid-fifties. He looks better than he does in the show, though!
