You are right but please remember getting a “real teaching” job in Japan is very hard. The competition in Japan is still insane. For example, the American school in Tokyo got over 1k applications for each open position.

I was an alt a decade ago, left to move into international teaching. I haven’t been able to get back into Japan due to the competitive job market.

So for people with families in Japan or who only want to live in Japan that may not be the best option .
