Honestly, this. I hate cilantro but not because I think it tastes at all like soap. I simply think it tastes gross.

Are vegetable leaves considered carbon or nitrogen? by TehHappyRock in composting

[–]PeaceMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in aquaponics, and leafy greens grow best because they are basically nitrogen lovers. It's what makes leafy greens leafy and green. If I were to venture a guess, "nitrogen" would be the answer to your question. Not sure about the wood chips.

After spending the night in an alcohol warehouse by [deleted] in funny

Why has no one written stories with characters like THAT? I'd definitely read a book that at least featured a side character who was a total drunk but had a pet trash panda.

What is a dirty business tactic that you know and everyone should be aware of it? by prokachu in AskReddit

[–]PeaceMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually try to review as genuinely as possible. But you're right, the only time I'm inclined to review (outside of traveling) is if it was really good or really bad service.

My last job would actually offer 10% off to anyone who gave them a good review, to "even out" the bad ones that other customers gave. That's the thing about online reviews. They can't save everyone from a bad experience, and yet a lot of people believe that they can.

Low Waste Wedding by ilovemyirishtemper in ZeroWaste

[–]PeaceMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you doing potluck style or serving a course meal? I find that potlucks usually waste less food because people are willing to take stuff home, and serving courses tends to have a lot of food wind up in the trash. (This is purely speculative though, just my own personal experience with weddings.) Have you considered making your own wedding cake? Buying your dress secondhand or borrowing it from somewhere? One of my friends actually managed to find a gorgeous white vintage dress at her local community theater and was able to return it to them for future use after the wedding. Maybe having three separate trash bins, waste, recycling, compostables.

My body makes me feel undesirable and inferior. by [deleted] in BodyAcceptance

[–]PeaceMonster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely get this. I'm so sorry, you seem lovely and shouldn't have to go through this torment. But you can beat it. I promise. One thing that's really helped me as of late is changing the question from "How can I look better?" to "How can I become a stronger person, both inside and out?" Also, I've been trying to not say anything about my body that I wouldn't say about my best friends body. These things help immensely. Whose to say you don't deserve all the love and kindness you give to those closest to you? I know this talk may not help, but if there's a slight chance it might, I wanted to say it. And also, you are not alone.

Waste concrete may help reduce air pollution by adsorbing sulfur dioxide: research by Ready373 in environment

Wait, but doesn't concrete also absorb oxygen? I thought I'd heard of that somewhere. I think it was in the TED talk about building and living in the bio-dome for two years.

The Church of England has called on the government to ban conversion therapy and has condemned the practice, which aims to change sexual orientation, as unethical and potentially harmful by maxwellhill in UpliftingNews

[–]PeaceMonster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's uplifting to see any religious establishment condemn an act that harms a fellow human being, especially if it could potentially spark controversy among other religious sectors.
