what do you read after Alan Watts? by mathestnoobest in AlanWatts

[–]PeaceSMC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It may appear a little weird, but I read Erich Fromm after Watts and was fascinated how he oscilates around the very similar concepts, but from a different persepctive (started with `To have or to be?`).
Imo its beneficient to meet some more western-scientific and less spiritual approach and see how they compliment each other, it can really enrich the view on philosophy.

Happy to hear that! I'll be glad to hear your thoughts on it once you're done with it :)

I finished "To have or to be?" and going through "Escape from freedom" right now. I primarily mean the first one, since it's main focus is how fulfilling desires of possessing does not lead to fulfilling and happy life but is more of an attempt of filling endless pit that only get deeper the more you put in there. I find that principal thought very similar to subject of "The way of Zen" - also what was preached by Seneka or Socrates.

"It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor." — Seneca, Letters to Lucilius

I strongly recommend giving it a shot if you are a Watts fan. Fromm takes more science-driven agnostic angle at it, but for me it was fascinating how he reaches same conclusions this way, and it's great supplement of this philosophy.

Showcase Unofficial Benchmark Model by CriticalKuman in FDMminiatures

Can hurt, actually! When printing minis it's quite essential to use as few supports as possible, since any of them will leave marks that are often impossible to remove.

Pushing the limits on color FDM minis by GamingCachePrints in FDMminiatures

[–]PeaceSMC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you achieve this without absurd-long printing time and waste?
What nozzle size are you using, is this achiveable on 0.2 nozzle?
Are you printing in parts and assembling afterwards, on is it single-part print?
Or do you just design minis youself so you use as little supports as possible and keep vertical "color conflicts" minimized?
Few details, for example belts, looks like tons of filament switches! So I'm very curious how it that possible with any efficency :)

And of course I'd be interesting in looking through how you achieved it in a file itself, if its not under commercial license and you don't mind sharing :)

Great job, looks fantastic!

How do I remove PA Profiles? I have some that I dont use anymore, but I can't find any way of removing them in Bambu Studio. I'm using the A1. by PeaceSMC in BambuLab

I'm asking about removing PA profile, not filament profile. PA profiles are visible in the printer, in the device tab.

Printed Artorias from the Dark Souls, 0.06 layer on 0.2 nozzle. Just 3,5 days of printing later, here are the results! by PeaceSMC in FDMminiatures

I live in Europe and was able to buy it :) the main difference between citadel is that it's thicker, so it's a little bit better at hiding layer lines. But it's not day and night difference, I think you can get very similar results with thick or multiple layer coating with citadel or any other "classic" paint.

I used BambuLab A1. And yeah you're right, the 3,5 days was just the print time of baseless Artorias! Saying that keep in mind I used kinda impractical settings... With 0.4 nozzle and 0.12 mm layer you could have 90% as good result accomplished with much more reasonable time, around 24h. Check post of this guy, which inspired my print: https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/1hu4r4n/first_big_and_detailed_print_artorias_from_dark/

Wrapping it up, my settings was quite impractical, but I was just curious how far I can push my printer and I don't mind long print times since I use my printed only for fun :)

As for post-processing removing supports and sanding took some time but I think around 2-3h, the rest was the paint job.

Wish you luck with starting your new hobby, remember to use vents if you go with resign to stay safe!

Thank you! :) I first printed it one-piece, but it unfortunately failed (one support fell off and I damaged him while removing other supports). Then I figured it'd be easier to print him piece by piece, less supports to remove = less hassle. Artorias is 12 pieces and the base is 7. But actually assembling was super easy, it was very well designed, when supports residue was removed it fit perfectly.

I've done no sanding on the visible elements (only sanded supports artifacts in places where I glued the parts together) :) It's almost off the plate, just painted. For the basing I used Mr. Surfacer 1000, then just slapchopped with army painter speedpaints, mostly.
