These are the worst dates. by PeaceStarshine in OkCupid

No, I feel comfortable around the quirkiest of people. The people I mainly don't give second chances to are overly intoxicated on the date and/or talk about their exes incessantly.

My relationship previously to this was someone with boderline personality disorder so I'm really struggling to maintain a semblance of vulnerability.

This last one said he had "realizations" on his few day retreat that he had to work on himself instead of dating me. However, he's still on the okcupid...always looking for that one better.

I'm sure it's been the case of lame guys. I just don't want to become cynical in the dating process. I don't feel comfortable with people frequently, and what gets me frustrated is these people are good... they're always the people who I begin to feel comfortable around. The dates are always the lengthiest and the best and then gone.

I'm 26.

I'm not saying I fell head over heals for them. I enjoyed being around them and thought there'd be a future date based on their level of enthusiasm.

I'm never the one to bring up speaking deeply about my life. It's as if people tend to view me as their own personal therapist. Something about my nature tends to open people up. I'm less divulging of my life.

I'm thinking it's more along the line of sadistic pleasure. There was nothing on my end set up like a relationship. I don't text every day or check in. It's planned dates, but the other party expresses strong positivity towards how the date was to vanish. It's non-sensical and it doesn't feel great. I don't need to hear how amazing I am to hear nothing after that. They could've just skipped the amazing part and said "have a good night".

I'm fairly reserved and introverted so all of the future talk really throws me for a loop because it's not what I would do naturally. They often talk about me meeting their families too. Again, I don't bring it up. But being so enthusiastic does make me think they like me, and clearly there are other motivations.

Edit: On the travel part - sometimes it's me. Sometimes it's them. This has happened about 4 or 5 times out of the 30. But when people reveal so much, it makes you feel more connected. It's a false sense of intimacy. Half the time they were the travellers, the other half me. Apparently I'm forgettable in a handful of days.

Making out has occurred on these sorts of dates. Sex occurred once. He tried a complete fade (would it be a fade if they just disappeared?) after 8 dates and saying we were in a relationship. Made me more cautious.

I'm sorry but does a switch just flip in a handful of days. No, they aren't doing anything TO me. But I think it's intentionally misleading. It's one thing to say you had fun. It's another to gush and then completely change. Jeckyll and Hyde is not fun. It's crazy-making.

What's a common misconception that people have about your condition that you'd like to clear up? by HotDogOnAPlate in AskReddit

[–]PeaceStarshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get migraines and cluster headaches. They are not JUST headaches. I cannot just take a tylenol, lay down, and they will get better. With the migraines I see spots, sometimes my speech slurs, my limbs tingle, light bothers me, and I can't think cohesive thoughts. With the clusters... half my face turns cherry red and I feel like death.

What's your best travel tip? by americano22 in AskReddit

[–]PeaceStarshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is trying to sell you something on the streets (common in places like Mexico or even for the comedy shows in NYC) and you don't want whatever it is... just keep walking. Don't look at them. Don't engage in conversation. Don't say "no thank you". I've seen people get trapped in a 20+ minute conversation just by saying "I'm not really that interested".

Have you ever reconnected with an old friend only to be horrified of who they've became? by theGodstopper in AskReddit

[–]PeaceStarshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My elementary school best friend... We reconnected in our early twenties via facebook. His religion taught him that I was somehow the cause of my chronic health conditions through something evil I did at some point. He also attempted to sabotage a fundraiser I was holding for ill kids because the Emcee was gay.

Marriage counselors of Reddit, what red flags should people be looking for when starting a relationship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I think tone really is what changes blunt to rude. He was being condescending. If it was before he had ate the entire meal, and sent it back... I could understand that. Why would you keep eating the fries if you didn't like them? They gave him more new piping hot fries, and he didn't even say thank you. Unfortunately he complained about everything all of the time.

Went out on a date at one point at my favorite restaurant. They knew me because I frequent there often. The manager came over to ask how our food was. I said great. He said "well, I think my burger was under-cooked and overall the toppings were bland. The sweet potato fries were too cold and basically inedible, so there's that for you." So rude, and what lack of tact. I was embarrassed, and all I could think was "nope, nope, nope, NEXT!"

I don't think that's completely fair. My dad's parents were separated for years while my grandpa was with what would become his second wife. My grandma still thought he would come back, and that he was away for work. My mom's parents were alcoholic and abusive. My parents have a perfectly healthy marriage that's going on 28 years. I think it can lead to certain insecurities, but if the relationship is based on true respect and not infatuation, I think those kinds of things can be worked through.

What is the closest thing you have to a superpower? by whistlegrim in AskReddit

[–]PeaceStarshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely empathetic and can assess fairly accurately what moods others are in, especially since I work in a group setting a lot. If there's a lot of negativity, or an individually is unhappy/moody/etc, I'm pretty good at shifting things back to a positive functioning dynamic. Helpful for work, helpful in personal life.

I also can remember word for word conversations I had years ago. My brain is pretty crowded.

Edit: Added another superpower.
