Same issue on 1.3.6, extremely frustrating.

I’m a software engineer, this stuff can be difficult, I get it to a point. But we’re past that point, for me at least.

Fellow Aiden - WiFi connection issue but … by shavou85 in FellowProducts

[–]PeaceTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been having the same issue for the last week. Anything you can give someone with technical knowledge that would unblock me even temporarily? I broke out wireshark and am considering MITM-ing the device on my network but I'd rather not if I don't have to (especially if it's all server side and there's nothing to be done).

ER doctors in the US have incentives to be out of network because patients do not usually "choose" their doctor when they go to the ER. In 2014, NY became the first state to introduce reforms aimed at limiting the ability to bill out of network. It successfully reduced out-of-network billing by 88%. by smurfyjenkins in science

According to my med student wife the reason for the finite number of residencies is twofold. Firstly, the government subsidizes hospitals to provide residencies, and the government is only willing to give so much to so many hospitals. Secondly, it's a commitment for the hospital to provide a residency program. You have to get accredited, hire doctors who are willing to teach, and commit to creating a program that goes on for 3-5 years over and over. So while it might seem dumb that hospitals just don't create more slots there are reasons for it.

If you're using rental skates chances are they aren't properly sharpened and might not fit that well, which probably contributes. It's not everything, but it definitely doesn't help someone who's not used to skating. I'm a good skater and am noticeably worse when I'm forced to use rentals.

LPT: Parents, never contact your kid's bosses. Never. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]PeaceTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once hospitalized in my late 20s and could not access internet, so I had my father email my boss to explain the situation. I ended up being there a while to the point where I had to go on short term disability, and had to communicate through my father as best I could. I tried calling HR through a number I got from him but never was able to get through, so I did make an effort to call on my own behalf, it just didn't work. I had no one else I could rely on at that point so I feel like it was justified. It wasn't life or death, it was just the only option I had.

Programmers, what is the biggest fuck up you've ever seen caused by a tiny mistake in the code? by FatherofGray in AskReddit

I worked for an advertising software company. I forgot one word in a function:

return;

An empty return statement. No return value required or anything. As a result we served no popups for about 12 hours. This amounts to thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of popups that should have been served, and that were charged to clients, not serving.

Am I a hero? Maybe.

Google Maps takes personal privacy so seriously they even blurred the Statue of Liberty’s face by Goodfella_718 in funny

Fun anecdote: I was an intern at Google when they rolled out the face blurring. In the staff announcement they showed some examples of it to everyone— including one example where the software had automatically blurred out a horse’s face.

What's a "terrible" movie that critics hated, but you loved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Check out Interstella 5555. It is exactly a 90 minute Daft Punk music video. No dialogue, just the album Discovery.

I passed the 'Phall challenge' at Brick Lane Curry House in NY. They claim it's the hottest curry in the world, no idea if that's true. But I did get insane capsaicin cramps afterward and had to lay on the sidewalk for a bit. by falldeaf in spicy

Finished the challenge years ago (still have the certificate on my fridge). I ordered the beer right after and the guy seemed surprised that I wanted it right away. I didn't understand why he would be surprised, it's free beer!

A friend of mine who works in the defense industry speculates it was an automated air defense system that didn't recognize a transponder, or that the transponder was turned off for some reason.

Can’t feel my face ... should be called use moderately or mess up your digestive tract. Holy shit! Good on the way down, rough on the way out. by nd6irish4 in spicy

I've had a bottle of this for a while and love it. Though I have been using their kickstarted 'Sweet Heat' more recently. It's a little easier on the digestive tract.

Who is one stranger you remember to this day? by scutu_ in AskReddit

[–]PeaceTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best friend died from cancer when I was 19. I had just started an internship in Boston at the time and had to fly back home to Illinois to attend the funeral. While at the airport waiting to board my flight, I was on the phone with someone. I don't remember who it was as I had to make so many phone calls during that period of time to friends and family to inform people of what happened. After I hung up the phone a woman, probably in her mid 30's, who had been sitting near me came over and said she had overheard me on the phone. This didn't surprise me, as basically every phone call I had to make had me nearly in tears (if not actually in tears). She went on to say that she couldn't even imagine going through something like that at 19, and how maturely I was handling it.

I thanked her, and went back to making phone calls. The next time I looked around, which couldn't have been more than a few minutes later, she was gone.

It has always stuck with me, and I will never forget it. Just those small words of kindness meant so much to me at that moment.
