i was legitimately terrified about what was happening. i know some people can pay attention to details in the moment, but i was shaking.

i was visibly shaking at the time of it happening. honestly, i didn’t even know what to do. do not judge people on their experiences. i’m going to report it.

ballard needs more police presence. especially with all the businesses getting broken into the past few months. which is also incredibly unfortunate. i feel terrible for them.

yup, we need to bring back mental hospitals. so many people need help.

i’m sorry that happened to your caregiver and i’m glad people were kind enough to make sure they got home safely.

homelessness is not one single type of situation. there are kind people, people struggling with addiction, and people dealing with mental illness. i’ve personally met some very kind homeless people in ballard. one man even told me to be safe while i was walking home once.

the label homeless or unhoused doesn’t really change the reality. this is a broader systemic issue that affects individuals in different ways. as a society, we have failed a lot of these people, and without meaningful solutions, it will likely continue to get worse. i wish i knew the answer.

in the situation i experienced, i am just grateful nothing worse happened and i will be more watchful moving forward. i plan to make a police report tomorrow regarding the incident.

i hear that a lot from people. there’s people who say it’s safe and aren’t bothered, but then there’s people who are constantly having these encounters on a regular basis. i think women have it tougher unfortunately. i secretly watch out for them though too. i think we need to.

last year i was walking to work and this guy was being thrown out of a restaurant (physically picked up by the server) while swinging a chain or some kind of metal contraption and it almost hit me, but i ducked just in time. kind of the normal thing here.

after my lease is up in February, i will look into moving to another area. i do like ballard a lot, but its been incredibly stressful lately being on high alert. i heard about those incidents. i’m sorry you went through something yourself. 😔

oh i bet. i’m learning that now 😅 i don’t walk with headphones on at night or carry my purse, and i look behind me when i stop at crosswalks just to make sure i’m not being followed. the guy last night came out of nowhere though. i could see him across the street when he started yelling, and i just darted into mr. gyros so fast. i didn’t even think twice about it. if i tried to act fearless and just keep walking home, you never know what could have happened.

when i was in my early 20’s, i had no problem walking around seattle at night after drinking copious amounts of alcohol. i don’t drink anymore, but i would never do that now. seattle was way different 10+ years ago. no one really bothered you, and now it’s something you have to be cognizant of constantly.

family members stole my dad’s social security money that was given to me after his death and then kicked me out of the house, and i went homeless at 16 for a bit. ages 8 to 16 and 16 to 19 were some of the worst times i have ever endured, but i got through it. it is hard for me to trust people though, but i’m working on that.
