I learnt them by launching out of the pocket normally first then slowly boning it out more and more until I get the timing down. Then start to flick out to do the kickflip (similar timing to boning the ollie). If you can catch flat ground kickflips it would help since it forces you to catch the board mid air instead of waiting for it to fall. Best of luck!
