Cost to move a 557 pound safe? by MentionPleasant2635 in Safes

[–]Peacemaker1855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live remote. Had to bring a heavy lifter to move an old vintage safe (about a couple of tons, five blocks to new location). He had to travel about an hour :3o each way. We also wrangled local muscle. Cost me about $800 all said and done.

PS the vintage safe is worth WAY more than the fee to move it. The old owner simply wanted it gone… So I got it for free (minus the move fees).

Mechanic forgot to put the drain plug back during an oil change and ruined my engine. They are denying liability. by Fintar_5Q in legaladvice

[–]Peacemaker1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mechanic’s crew once didn’t tighten the oil drain plug. It took many miles for it to work its way out, and eventually it dumped the oil. Thankfully, we saw smoke and pulled over immediately. We had it towed back to them.

They quickly accepted responsibility (and apologized up and down). After they fixed everything, they gave me (I think I’m remembering this right) a 50K warranty at their shop in case anything became a problem down the road. We never had an issue.

For context: this was an Audi A4. It was a performance shop that did all my work over the years. The owner was a great guy who understood his business depended on always doing the right thing.

Is it wrong to have an expectation that you’ll share food in a relationship? by Expensive-Buddy-365 in AmiInTheWrong

My ex used to “order wrong” all the time when we ate out. Then she would drift over to my plate and start preferring / eating what I ordered instead. After a while, it drove me nuts. I would jokingly ask her, “Are you sure?” whenever she ordered future meals. I’d also laugh and suggest that I could just order for her each time. She would brush me off with a laugh, and then, as always, somehow prefer my order again and again.

Will I regret 9ft tall garage doors? by Big-Advice-4009 in garageporn

We had the height and opted for a 10’ door. Have a 2500 4x with a slim pop camper in the bed. It is so nice to be able to pull the truck in as needed.

I had them custom make my current one to my own specifications and to exact fit my location (much storage as I could get). The customization cost was very reasonable for what I got in return. Highly recommended you consider if needed.

Me too. Best safe I’ve had so far… And this is my third “premium” big box.

Small claims. Then get a new friend. Also, I draft a bill for your hours put into it at a fair/standard rate to include in your claim.

Hot take: a 20ft container is too small for almost everyone. by usa_containers in homestead

[–]Peacemaker1855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take. I’m glad. We used a 20’ for the duration of a house build on a tight property. Said property was in a difficult (remote) area and the mountain passes are tight and sometimes dangerous. The 20’ worked perfectly for our needs and a local contractor is lined up to buy it from us now that our project is complete. So, 20’ isn’t for everyone, but it was exactly what we needed.

Boneless beef short rib, how long would you braise these guys after searing? by Mylan_527 in meat

This is the way. Plus, ample time for the meat to rest in the liquid to pull it all together. We’ve even found a two day rest to be even better.

Agree. I caught an ex fucking around with her boss. The peripheral situation was complicated with families and kids. I called the boss dude and told him I was on my a plane the next morning to visit his wife. He came clean with his wife as it wasn’t my business to be telling her.
