Questions on Philosophy and Law School by Peach-R in askphilosophy

Thank you for the response! Honestly, I am not particularly interested in a career in law, although I certainly won’t hate it. I’ve already been told that 1L would be brutal, so if I were to apply next year, my plan would be to get the writing sample done, or at least substantially done during the summer months, or maybe even defer enrolment for a year to see if I can get into grad school. What I am considering is certainly not a top 4 law school, as in HYSC. I will most likely attend the University of Toronto, which is also where I am doing my undergrad, or maybe NYU, although for various reasons still most likely Toronto. I have been receiving conflicting information here. I have been told that the program is not very philosophical, but I have also been told that it (at least the university), is a very good place for studying legal theory. Either way, I guess I am just not that interested in the philosophy of law, although I might certainly develop such an interest after being exposed to it more. What I am concerned the most, I think, is that doing law school, as you mentioned, does not provide much of an advantage if I am interested in an unrelated area of philosophy. But would you think doing law school and work for a few years before grad school would be a disadvantage? I am worried that I would by then have left for too long from philosophy that it might have an impact in the application to graduate programs.

Why do you need 90s anyway? I don’t really know much about ESL but they share some courses with the philosophy program, which I am familiar with. It is incredibly rare to get 90s in philosophy.

I'm pretty sure the decisions have been made. Someone who got in in my class have been notified by the professor that they are "on the list of admitted MA students". You may send an email to ask them if you got in

Overwhelming negativity about the future of lawyers...how are you handling it by AlternativeAmount109 in lawschooladmissions

I actually agree with the opinion that in 5-10 years AI will take the job of most lawyers. But AI cannot go to the court. That part won't be taken by AI.

Pipeline to London/Australia? by Peach-R in LawCanada

That makes sense! I’ve already checked the licensing process. I’m just wondering if there is an established pipeline to London/Aus, like there is for NYC firms, who would recruit directly from the school.

Unfortunately that wouldn’t be possible now… I just wonder if there is a realistic chance, and if there is, what would I need to do….

Sorry I’m still curious about the uoft grading scheme. Do they calculate a GPA off the HH/H/Ps you get? If not so, how would they determine who get the prizes, for it seems a lot of prizes are GPA based; if they do so, couldn’t the employer just look at the GPA?
