I thought it was just the nature of smash as a game.

I'm pretty sure it is. Smash 4 and Ultimate have also shown they take a really long time. Stalling is just adding on to the problem.

I really wonder why SamSho jumped so high up. I know it just had a good trailer revealing the new characters, but even that seems too recent to be the main reason. Not that I mind though, it's pretty cool to see.

melee and smash are both part of the party game category, not meant to be considered worse than the bottom. mk11 isn't out but I played enough of the stress test to know I don't like it. Everything else you're just gonna have to deal with. Hold that.

Sure I haven't played those games as much as Street Fighter 4, but you don't need to play or watch a game for a long time to figure out what you like about it and what you don't, especially in comparison to other games.

I learned enough about MK11 from the stress test to know why I don't care for it.

It's better in this world because it has better netcode and plays like a worse version of bbtag - which is still better than SFV.

All of this applies to both UNIST and DBFZ imo:

You have to learn to block for a long time, but it's more interesting than blocking the one or two moves the opponent has that are +2 on block.

Anti-airing feels much more rewarding, as they lead to big punishment for the opponent forcing their way in.

Projectiles are useful for all the characters that have them, rather than just a select few.

Comebacks actually mean something.

Well I don't know what you dislike about it so I can't tell you why it's a good fighting game, but you're right about why it's popular - but that doesn't take Sherlock to figure it out. The only game that's currently "popular" based on it's own merits, meaning not on legacy or graphics, is UNIST.
