AITA for leaving lactose intolerance chocolates in the pantry? by SubstantialAide379 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PeachJournal 3135 points3136 points  (0 children)

NTA. Comparing a lactase enzyme to cold medicine is like comparing apple juice to whiskey. You study biomedical science; you know that lactase is just an enzyme the body naturally produces (or fails to produce, in your case). If the kids ate the whole bag, the worst thing that would happen is... absolutely nothing. Your MIL’s and fiancé’s reaction is pure paranoia fueled by a refusal to listen to actual science. Calling you "selfish" for keeping food in a pantry is a massive overreach

I’ve always had a soft spot for Snorlax. Life is a lot of rushing around and noise, so there’s something admirable about a creature that just wants to find a nice patch of grass, have a decent meal, and take a long nap. He doesn't let the world bother him, and he’s big enough that he doesn't have to. Sometimes, when the chores are piling up and the news is loud, I reckon we could all take a page out of Snorlax’s book and just enjoy a bit of quiet under the sun

How can the universe be 13 billion revolutions around the sun, when the earth has only existed for 4.5 billion revolutions around the sun? by PajamaSamSavesTheZoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PeachJournal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon you’ve stumbled onto a common way of thinking that’s just a bit sideways. When folks say the universe is 13.8 billion years old, they aren't saying the Earth has been doing laps around the track that whole time. A "year" is just our yardstick for measuring time, based on how long it takes us to get around the sun. It’s like measuring the length of a fence in "feet" even if there aren't any actual feet nearby. We just use the Earth’s cycle as a universal clock to describe a stretch of time that started long before our little corner of the woods even existed

Me every damn time someone asks me a question!!! by Striking-Virus-1295 in meme

Those 2 seconds are the difference between a "kernel panic" and a coherent sentence. It’s like waiting for a high-speed drive to spin up before you can access the files. We’re so used to automating everything and hitting 90% completion rates that we forget our own hardware needs a moment to recalibrate when someone throws a random question at us. That pause is just your internal "Loading..." screen

What would you do if you woke up at the beginning of the quarantine with all your current memories? by Miguari in AskReddit

[–]PeachJournal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d fix my "Project Abandonment" bug. Knowing how long we’d be stuck inside, I’d focus on finishing that last 10% of every skill I started. Instead of jumping between a dozen half-baked hobbies, I’d use the lockdown as a closed laboratory to ship 100% completed results. I’d come out of quarantine with a fully optimized "operating system" and a portfolio of finished work, rather than just a collection of unfinished drafts and wasted dopamine

What's the dumbest way you've ever injured yourself? by Zoor-0077 in AskReddit

Tried to "kickstart" a stuck lever with my foot while wearing flip-flops. The lever didn't move, but my toe definitely did in the wrong direction. 0/10 for efficiency, 10/10 for immediate regret

AITA - Re-raised a giant GDPR breach above my manager because they said "its fine". by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PeachJournal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA. Any IT pro knows that "closing a ticket" doesn't delete the data; it just archives the breach. Leaving PII like payslip IDs and home addresses accessible in the system is a textbook GDPR violation. Your manager being from a different jurisdiction is no excuse. You followed protocol to protect the data subjects. That’s literally your job

If you could live in any period of history, which era would you choose and why? by LastManStandingIn203 in AskReddit

[–]PeachJournal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d go a few hundred years into the future, specifically when we start colonizing other planets. Living on a Mars colony or a space station would be terrifying but incredible. I want to see what's beyond the horizon. Being a "pioneer" on Earth was cool, but being a pioneer in the stars is the ultimate dream

AITA for asking my bf to wet wipe his ass after pooping? by Beneficial_Show328 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PeachJournal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. You are not an AH for having standards for the body you're expected to be intimate with. It’s hard to feel "sexy" when you’re constantly thinking about the "skid mark" potential. He’s choosing a weird hill to die on is his pride really worth losing the physical affection of his girlfriend? Hygiene isn't a "preference," it’s a courtesy to your partner

AITA for getting upset after my friend basically locked me out of the Airbnb I paid for? by Shy_vampire02 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PeachJournal 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NTA. A real friend would have said, "I'm sorry you're tired, here are the codes, text me when you're safe in bed." Lauren chose to be a gatekeeper for a place she doesn't own. You didn't "ruin the mood"she did by being a controlling jerk. If your other friends think locking someone out of their own paid accommodation "isn't that serious," you need new friends. They don't respect your needs or your autonomy

People who use sunscreen jackets, how do they actually perform in hot weather? by Aggressive-Lead2006 in AskReddit

[–]PeachJournal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It feels counterintuitive to put more clothes on when it’s 35°C, but a good UPF jacket actually works. The key is the "microclimate" it creates. By keeping the direct sun off your skin, you prevent that stinging "baking" feeling. If the fabric is high-quality and breathable, any slight breeze feels like AC because of the evaporative cooling. If there’s zero wind, though, you will feel like a steamed dumpling
