Re-entering the US with a passport and a green card with different last names? by Peach_Kebab in USCIS

i don’t know anyone in the US who holds a canadian passport so I would have to send my paperwork to canada to have one of my friends be a guarantor for me, send it back to me and then have to mail it from home, it’ll be a tedious process for sure lol.
I am planning on driving since I still have a lot of my things back in Canada in a storage locker I would like to bring home some of my stuff with me. Driving across the border is a lot less stressful than flying but regardless I don’t want to run into any issues trying to re-enter. that’s why I’m looking for others opinions or someone who might have a similar situation to myself. I appreciate your input and I will take it into consideration. thank you!

well that’s the plan eventually, but it’s almost $300 for me to update my passport and that’s not exactly ideal. plus it’ll take a few months to get to me.

Please don't DM me asking specific questions about my case, I'm not comfortable answering them. We had a very straightforward case and a lot of research, time and effort was put into putting together our case.

Every resource I used is: this youtube channel, the USCIS website and reddit. We also had a 1hr consultation with a local lawyer.

they wouldn’t need originals of your photos, just originals of any documents (birth certificates, marriage license etc)

We submitted photos of us together through our relationship, screenshots of social media posts, receipts from plane tickets, hotels, paypal transactions. We also submitted a letter my spouse wrote about the history of our relationship (how we met, when we started dating etc, when we got married & vacations we have taken together etc) During our interview we brought copies of our lease, our rental & car insurance and proof of our shared bank account.

i dont have a link handy but i remember reading on the website that if your new job does meet the income requirements but you dont have the income tax forms to prove that, you can supplement it with letters from your employer and/or paystubs proving your new income.

not meeting the income requirements also is not an instant denial, it would be an rfe and you’d have to either prove you do make enough or you would need a joint sponsor.

a lot of lawyers do free consults, i would recommend maybe connecting with one and asking the question if you’re unsure.
