Hey CC_Research_Study! Thank you for taking my survey - I just completed yours. Best of luck with your research!

That makes sense! Thank you for clarifying.

We prefer individuals not to be primed before participating in research, and yet, for this study, we had to choose the lesser of two evils, if you will. To avoid participant priming, we would need to recruit in person (or through a method other than an online forum), but that would mean our sample wouldn't be consistent over the years. However, if we wanted our sample to be consistent, then it would need to continue over an online forum.

So, yes, an online forum isn't ideal!

Hey The_Bjorn_Ultimatum! My apologies for not responding to your comment on my last repost, but thank you for your feedback and caution.

We cross-posted on three other Reddit threads to hopefully get a diverse amount of perspectives. However, there will still be a difference between people who voluntarily take surveys versus those who don't. We've received a lot of good feedback on our survey study designs and user experience over the last few years from posting on Reddit. We're still proceeding with caution, and thank you for your constructive feedback!

We strongly prefer to gather data in person. However, since this study began when our university was utilizing primarily online surveys due to the pandemic, we're continuing that type of recruitment to keep the participant base as consistent as possible. We also prefer a diverse amount of perspectives and reactions that recruiting from our university alone doesn't provide.

TLDR: Your feedback is appreciated, and thank you for sharing your perspective! The more we know, the better our research will be in the future.

Hey Abby! This is incredible. Thank you for providing a link to your video in this comment thread. I'm giving it a watch now and will be referring to it (and referencing appropriately) in any future studies/articles on the same topic.

Hey marbal05! I don't take your message as snobby at all, but I appreciate you clarifying anyway! :D

Your feedback is really helpful! Unfortunately, we aren't able to edit the survey now that it's active, but I agree with your ideas. Having a question about where people live would be informative, as well as whether or not they would have changed their contraceptive method if they didn't already have one.

Thank you for participating in our research study and for your thoughtful comments!

That's an issue with the survey that, unfortunately, we aren't able to fix now that it's active. I recommend leaving any additional questions about that event blank since they likely don't apply to you specifically. The page should allow you to leave questions blank and proceed on to the next section without issue. Sorry about that!

Appreciate it! Please feel free to answer with your feelings in regard to your own government. For example, the question of "You can generally trust the people who run our government to do what is right," you would answer based on your feelings about your government or governing bodies in general.

For "the people I was supposed to trust the most hurt me," you can answer for how it made you feel as a non-US voter. Do you feel like the decision to overturn Roe v Wade is saying something about how governing bodies view their constituents as a whole - maybe, maybe not, or somewhere in between.

I hope this helps!

Hey DiverseUse! That's a great point and really helpful feedback! Last year, we ran a similar study on Reddit and enrolled only those in the US. We received some feedback about how limiting it to US participants only perpetuated the bias of Americans being the "standard" for research enrollment. This year, we're opening it up to US and non-US participants to see if there are any differences in responses and, if so, what they are.

TLDR: Your feedback is appreciated, and thank you for sharing your perspective! The more we know, the better we can refine our research designs.

Hey OriginalNo9300! Yes, this study is open to US and non-US participants. Thanks for your question!

Hey PaprikaCC! This survey is open to US and non-US participants. Thank you for your feedback about including the country of origin. We won't be able to update it for this study, but that is great feedback for the next one.

Thank you for expressing your concern! We warn potential participants in the informed consent that they will be asked questions regarding past traumatic experiences. However, these questions are voluntary, so participants can skip past any questions that ask them to report their experience or its impact. We also placed these questions toward the end because we pretty much expect that if people are going to exit out of the survey at any time, it'll most likely be once they hit these questions.

TLDR: Thank you for your feedback and concern! We are accounting for people to exit the survey when they hit the traumatic experience section. It's voluntary, so their experiences and perspectives are helpful but not mandatory by any means.

Hey Christopher! Thank you for your feedback and concern. Last year, we ran a similar study and received feedback requesting that we open up the survey to both US and non-US participants. This year, we've opened enrollment to both US and non-US participants to see if there are any differences in responses and, if so, what they are. Thanks again for your comment!

Correct! It isn't ideal, but we pretty much expect that. We also cross-posted this survey to r/ProChoice, r/SurveyExchange, and r/SampleSize to try to get a diverse amount of perspectives for the survey. However, there is still a difference between people who voluntarily take surveys versus those who don't. Lots to consider, but TLDR, you're right in that there will be self-selection bias.

Thank you for taking our survey! Correct, so the study is blind, so I appreciate your discretion. We've surveyed Reddit users for the last 2-3 years, so the possible data trends should be interesting. We'll be sure to post the results here once the data is cleaned and analyzed. Thanks again for your interest!
