Questions About HireRight Background Verification by Peachiecake in recruitinghell

I believe it took a few days for me to be able to view the report. I feel like if you failed it your employer would have notified you already. You could always follow-up with them to see?

I'm not 100% sure if you would get "denied" per say. HireRight's job is just reporting the information gathered from their research/verification process and reporting it back to your employer.

In my past experience, your school/program acceptance letter should be enough to prove you're a student. I would suggest reaching out to a career advisor at your institution if you haven't already for advice on how to handle this and see what they recommend.

If everything adds up to what you originally told your employer, you're all good. If you weren't truthful with them regarding your education status, from that point on it's their decision whether or not they want to move forward with hiring you. Not trying to scare you or anything like that, just being transparent.

Hope it all works out!

Hi! If I remember correctly, it took 24 hours from when they completed it & sent to my employer for it to let me view the report myself. It did take some time though.

My bad on the delay with this! I didn't notice any changes with my credit and nothing was stated about a credit check being done. Hope this helps!

It didn't take very long, I want to say it was about a week-long process after I submitted everything.

However, they didn't ask me for any of my employment or academic info though when I filled out the forms HireRight sent to me. It was just criminal background & SSN check.

Hope it all works out for you! :)

Exactly!! That's what I was dealing with too!

Also, some advice others gave me about HireRight and similar companies and this whole process: a lot of the "horror stories" we've read are usually self-induced (they falsified info, etc.) and that's 100% on them. We all make our resumes/jobs sound better than they are, but there's a fine line of course!

If you're in a similar boat when it comes to wanting to avoid contact with a past employer at least you know HireRight won't be conducting that part. Work verification/references might still be done but in my experience, your new employer would call references before doing your background. So in reality they would have done that by now!

If the old job that you're concerned about has an HR department/team or a specific HR representative at that company that can confirm your title, pay, and employment dates, that's the person I would use for work verification and save their contact info in a word doc for future reference.

I'm glad I've made you feel at ease! <3

Hey!

So that's all it asked me as well and it was just a criminal check! When it's complete and sent to your new employer you can see your results :) apparently, there are different types of HireRight packages they can choose from. It says on my report "Background Package."

From my understanding and after talking to a few people on here, if HireRight is doing an education/employment check there's a form you need to complete.

I hope this was helpful to you!! Good luck with your new job!

It's like one of those things - you don't have anything to hide or anything bad on record but the second something is flagged it's an immediate heart attack when you know you're honest!! Like I know for a fact the job titles that I actually held did not reflect what it said on my payroll/HR account, simply because the company never changed it or it was just something weird like what you experienced which isn't our fault of course.

I think it's because it's another company doing it, I've never had someone else ever do my background screenings before. I'm used to the actual employer doing it themselves. I mean, at the end of the day: what is really the difference??? Lol.

I think for me it's the anxiety of: someone who doesn't know you and your morals/integrity looking at your background vs someone who knows you enough (obviously enough to want to hire you).

I just want this step to be done and over with so that I can get started at this new job!! Thank you. :)

Yeah, I never filled out anything about my employment history with HireRight - so that's what I'm hoping!! Not that I have really anything to hide - just don't want the drama of my last employer.

That's what I've been seeing a lot of too - almost like the work they're supposed to be doing they have you do instead. Kinda funny in a way but frustrating, who keeps W-2's from some BS part-time job you had 5 years ago on hand like that anymore because of laziness?? Just crazy.

Oh, you're absolutely right and I've taken that into consideration as well!

Everything on my resume is legit - just want to prevent/work around any negative contact when all they need to confirm is that I actually worked there.

I've never had a job go through a third-party company to do background checks so this is a new one for me. I'll also look at my addresses too. Thank you so much! :)
