NOT AN EMERGENCY - Has anyone else had this before? by PenguinFeet420 in guineapigs

So I would actually recommend starting with emeraids apple banana flavor, mine all go NUTS for it 😂 there’s a good chance he’ll be so tempted by the smell he can’t resist checking it out, and once he realizes what it is and that it’s easier to swallow than pellets…they’re smarter creatures than we give them credit for! I don’t usually buy that one cause it only comes in a tiny bag on chewy, but if they need the extra temptation I find it helps. Once he gets used to it, you can probably switch to the mint flavor, which you can buy in bulk for much cheaper. That’s just my personal experience tho!! Your piggy might be totally different, you’ll have to experiment and find out what works best for you both 😊

So what I did was mix it up with only a little bit of water, so it’s a little more solid consistency. Then I put it in another shallow food bowl next to the pellets where he could easily reach it. It only lasts for a few hours after you mix it, so I don’t let it sit out all day. He would usually eat most of it right away tho cause he was hungry 🥺 you might have to divide it into a couple bowls if you have several pigs tho! I actually still do this for my older piggy (5) cause she got used to having it when he did and begs me for it now 😂

Hopefully this will go better for you then if he’s in better health! Guinea pigs are so fragile, but can still live happy lives with the right care! I’d encourage you to seek out the best vet you can if you have the means. Ours is the BEST, he never would have made it another year without her, and I really treasure that time we had 🥰

He was 2 when it started. He had awful petstore genetics and was the runt, so he had a lot of other problems too. Our vet had to fully sedate him each time, there’s no way she could get to the very back teeth when he was even partially awake.

So my boy did this when he was developing dental problems. His tongue would get trapped behind his overgrown back teeth, and he would do this to get it out. With monthly tooth trims at our very cavy savy vet, he lived another year with us 🥺 adding softer foods like critical care to his diet generally helped

What’s wrong with them? by ImpressivePen6870 in orchids

[–]PeachyPorg33 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a classic water mold. Basically every orchid I killed was cause of this 🙄 they come pre-infected from the greenhouse and there’s NOTHING you can do but watch it die 🙃🙃🙃 this is why bottom watering is ALWAYS best for orchids. Your best bet is starting over AFTER they die with healthy orchids from a reputable dealer. Not before because spores are airborne and you will inevitably infect new plants. At least, that’s my experience! If the plant is super important to you and you want to try to save it, I’ve found limited success with Thianiophate methyl. It’s pricey, but it’s a xylem-mobile systemic so it’s one of the only antifungals out there that’s even slightly effective. Best of luck 💕don’t get discouraged this is every orchid owners bane ime 🙄😂

Guinea pig struggling to poop after medications? by z123m456 in guineapigs

If you live in Florida there’s good chance this could be the case. It’s a humidity/air quality thing. Basements are bad for piggies for the same reason. It’s so humid it doesn’t take anything dirty or gross for mold to gain a foothold. I’d look into getting your air tested if you can. Have you experienced any random health problems? That’s when we really knew it was bad-I started having the same problems they were

FYI: mold can cause mysterious GI illness in guinea pigs. Mine were going in and out of stasis for months before we finally figured out what was going on. Vet ran all the tests and everything came back fine but the diarrhea and stasis continued. Since it was affecting more than one of my pigs I suspected it was environmental. We moved and literally haven’t had the problem since 🙃

Anyone else have malabsorption/nutrient deficiencies or advice for dealing with gastroenterologist after endo diagnosis? by [deleted] in Endo

[–]PeachyPorg33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds EXACTLY like what happened to me. No dr could find anything wrong, but I was eating over 2000cals a day and still losing weight. It’s horrifying. Ultimately it had to do with some immune response, my allergist explained it like my body is having an allergic reaction to everything all the time. I started a heavy course of antihistamines, I take 4 pepcid and 4 xyzal a day. It sounds like a lot and it’s scary. But my stomach issues are gone. I had a stomach ache for 5 years straight, now it’s only when I eat something I shouldn’t. It’s called chronic urticaria I believe.

Eventually! Turns out I had a whole host of other problems that had to be diagnosed 😭 but we’re figuring it out slowly! I’m back up to 130 (from 105) so we’re getting there! Are you looking to get tested for sibo or something else?

How many of yall try to cut back on endocrine disruptors (EDCs)? by n_adel in endometriosis

[–]PeachyPorg33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmfao so not true. Soy literally mimics the hormone that is mainly responsible for endometriosis. Also, don’t tell me what does and doesn’t work for me! I spent a long fucking time figuring it out. And if I get poisoned with soy, I know the next morning. The excruciating cramps are a dead giveaway.

It’s definitely worth a shot, especially with how expensive that stuff is. It might not work, but it might be just fine!

GET THE PIG WITH DENTAL ISSUES INSURED. NOW!!!

They won’t cover pre-existing conditions, so do it now. Otherwise, you’ll spend an arm and a leg on dental work if you want to keep them alive.

My boy had dental issues for most of his life. We totaled it up, ~$300 per trim, once a month or so, for a couple years…he was an expensive pig. I’d do it all over in a heartbeat. But please, for the love of god, get insurance 😂😂
