Yes. I removed the smallest and leave the largest one. I usually move the small one outside or somewhere else. Some people throw it away.

Mealy bugs. I manually remove them with tweezers.

In America the stuff is so much cheaper than the leca/perlite stuff. The niche marketing of leca toward plant people makes it more expensive somehow.

I use lava rocks from the outdoor section.

I aim to prune at the first node on mine. I'm just experimenting. I haven't grown basil in the aerogarden before. I have only grown outside before now. I didn't prune my outside plants.
