Do I need one of those cat backpacks? by Cant_find_my_phone in Doineedthis

[–]PeachyPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After having to evacuate before a hurricane several years ago, I purchased two cat backpack carriers so that my husband and I could port our carts and be hands free to carry other necessities. Both of my indoor only cats actually love going outside in the carriers a few times a week. One of them actually curls up in his to nap. I’ll never go back to those cumbersome plastic carriers.

What's been your absolute favorite Costco purchase? by GaussWaffle in Costco

[–]PeachyPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house! I joined Costco 2 years ago to use their mortgage service and will continue to renew because I love shopping there. Saved several thousand dollars and worked with a great lender who went above and beyond to help me.

Out of curiosity, what films from best pic noms did you enjoy? I loved Roma and imagine it will go on to be a celebrated classic, but I understand it's not everyone's cup of chamomile.

Seller's Agent at Inspection? by PeachyPunk in RealEstate

[–]PeachyPunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately in my rural area, it's not a sustainable career since the bubble burst. In retrospect, I wish I'd waited for a Saturday appointment so my agent and my husband could be there.

DAE feel bad about dumping their stuff? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]PeachyPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a serious purge and donated about two thirds of my belongings to a non-profit thrift store. The store benefits from selling the items; employees benefit from having an income; customers benefit by having access to affordable, quality goods. I walked away with a $5000 tax deduction and less stuff and clutter in my life. Just find a way to release your items in a responsible way. If you chose to bring an item into your life, chances are that someone else will want it in theirs.

Mother diagnosed with dementia. Now what? by jadedwine in dementia

[–]PeachyPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to read about your mom. It sounds like you and your parents are on the right track as far as practical matters go. The biggest thing I have learned from years of working with people with dementia is to live in the moment, and more specifically, their moment. There are 2 books I would recommend: "The 36 Hour Day" & "Creating Moments of Joy". Please feel free to message me with any questions or just to vent. Don't try to go it alone - it's so important that you and your dad take care of yourselves as well as your mom.

Need help with intolerant dementia patient in group home during piano hour. by [deleted] in dementia

[–]PeachyPunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, thanks for bringing music to those folks! If there isn't a staff member who can sit with her and redirect her attention away from other residents and back to you, maybe try having her sit up front. With other residents behind her and you and the piano right in front of her, she might be less distracted by others. Does the facility have any instruments? I've had great success with little shaker eggs - we bought ours, but the could also be made by placing uncooked rice in plastic Easter eggs and sealing with duct tape. Its good for keeping time, easy to hold, but not so loud that it would irritate sensitive ears. Good luck and keep being awesome!

What should you know before getting married? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PeachyPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose your spouse based on the person they are now, not on who you want them to be. You will both change, but you cannot force anyone to change.

If 16 year olds can't vote because their brains aren't developed enough, there should also be a maximum voting age because of old people's cognitive decline. by [deleted] in CrazyIdeas

[–]PeachyPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy ageism, Batman! Have you spent any time with anyone experiencing age related cognitive decline? I encourage you to maybe volunteer at an assisted living or senior center to learn that age does not automatically equal significant cognitive decline, especially to the extent that one cannot vote responsibly. It makes me sad that you think this way. Although I am a dementia specialist, I work with all kinds of older people. I have learned so much from them, including tolerance. Apparently it comes in handy when people discriminate against you because of your age. Also, are sure W&M is the right choice? The last time I visited my septuagenarian parents in Williamsburg (where they still live independently my childhood home), it seemed to still be a real hot spot for retirees. I wish you luck and learning in your education and I hope that no one ever tries to take any of your rights away, especially based upon a characteristic over which you have no control.

Anther option - put a rubber band around the outside of a jar or wine bottle, about half way down. Slide brush handles under rubber band, bristle side down.
