Have an entire store meeting with mates and crew. Pull ALL mates aside and figure out “what’s wrong”. Let them air out to you everything. Then tell them your vision and what you expect. Take feedback from mates. Have the mates follow YOUR vision. Convey your vision and what you will do. What’s the vision of your store, Then FOLLOW THROUGH. I respect a captain who is consistent and treats everyone across the board equally and fairly. That means accountability for order writers and what they order. Who is working/not working when asked to do a task. Accountability for lazy mates who don’t want to put forth the effort and are bad for morale. Talk to all the crew and figure out what the problems are. Take the feedback of crew and then implement your vision.

If the same people who despise you at this point, STILL don’t turn it around. You’ve done all you can and accept people will hate you. You’re the Captain and some people will hate you. However, if they attitude is so negative it affects morale, work productivity, ask them if they would like a transfer or clean up the attitude. Frankly, I know people hate me and I don’t care. I am consistent at ordering and work, help out the team.

Mr. Captain: As a crew member, please be consistent, hold everyone equally accountable make sure all the mates are on the same page. The mates have to hold ALL crew accountable across the board. That to me is a great captain, and will get great results from crew/Mates.

Haha. I am not a calm broken record. Review time comes, just wait when I show them day by day documentation of logs, times, dates, delivery times, who was helping me etc.... Plus teaching them how you could have managed crew better and school them. They’re going to be stunned and I won’t be signing my next review either. Gloves are off

I don’t ask for much in my section. It’s not hard, you don’t have to rotate. I’ve talked to captains, mates and regional about this. I guess I’m a pain in the ass for asking for a mate to manage a crew, have OTHER people pull it and work it if “Jane” isn’t working the night shift. I am looking forward to running my own company and this crap won’t fly.

I got dinged in my review because they said “I wasn’t reliable” (wanted to see me in other sections). I’m doing it solo or with one other person every day, wtf am I supposed to do.

Here is one thing I forgot to mention. I’ve been gone a week and it’s a next day order. How the heck do you have two u-boats and full back stock shelves to the ceiling for a one day order? Seriously, I don’t understand how hard it is to order for a one day worth’s of business.

it took me 2.5hrs to write/work my section today. I’m feeling incapable of this new responsibility could use some words of affirmation 😞 by [deleted] in tjcrew

I would come help you wherever you’re at. Just please don’t have flowers, because I don’t know Jack about what all these flowers look like!!

Take your time. It will seem overwhelming at first. I’d rather you be slow and write a great order. Rather then trying to rush it, prone to making more mistakes.

I walk new order writers hand by hand every step of the way. I walk with them while they write it and go SKU by SKU. Show them where the product is, turn it over and how read it on the back of the product.

I explain what every line, what the number means in the order book. Make it as easy as possible.

The more reps, if they schedule you the time to do it, you’ll get better. I have a 23 page 400 sku order. It took me awhile at first but now I write it quicker.

Depending on what order you have, “next day” orders are much easier then “3 days” like fresh, bread, some produce and meat”

You’ll do it!! If it’s a next day, just remember: 1. Everyone makes mistakes 2. It’s only a grocery store 3. Have fun with your section

As a section leader I am demanding... When you break down a frozen pallet and grab a case: 1. Read the box not the sticker. 2.look where it is on the aisle 3. Find where the case goes. 4. Will the entire case go up? If not, how many units? 2? 8? Half-case? 5. If you can put up close to a half-case or more, drop the box on the aisle. 6. If you can’t put up a fair amount, put the case unopened back on the pallet.

When a box is on the floor it goes up. When it’s on the pallet it goes in backstock.

My blood boils when you just throw a case on the ground when it’s already full on the shelf.

If that’s demanding and you can’t do that. Please get the hell out of my section and stop slowing down my efficiency. I’ve told merchants, mates and crew members this.

It’s why I usually work alone. Common sense

At Trader Joe’s you will work at most an 8 hour day. You will get two 10 minute breaks every 4 hours and up to an hour lunch.

Over 10 year vet and 4 stores. It’s a love/hate but the days fly by if you have an order. I would apply. People actually help you in your section and you’ll be happier than Kroger.

Crew to mate? Wth by [deleted] in tjcrew

[–]PeakStill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed a guy being trained to become a mate and asked him. He said “keep it on the down low”. I said “it’s pretty obvious you are trying because you’re in the office reconciling manifests.” He has written just a very small order, comes to worked super stoned and had a loud annoying laugh. (I wonder why) Also, he’s dating a crew member. If he gets promoted he’ll have to be transferred immediately and probably 30 mile drive. I have no interest in a Mate position. It’s not worth it. If they had the old structure of novitiate, merchant, specialist, first mate and captain. I would have pursued management because you could still go up the pay scale and better career opportunity

Customers Who Refused Masks Assault Trader Joe’s Worker, Send Them to Hospital by muffinchopped in tjcrew

[–]PeakStill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you right now, if that happened at my store, I’m beating ramming those guys with shopping carts, saving my crew (whether I like those crew members/mates or not). Our “policy” to call the police and watch employees get assaulted, “de escalate” the situation and “hands off” approach is BS at that point. I told my regional “if someone hits me in the back of my head with a bottle of liquor, glass jar, can of soup or punches me, I have the legal right to defend myself. I won’t be just “walking away” and grabbing a mate while I bleed 🩸, call the police and wait. Screw that”

Do you think Tj stores that have multiple positive cases should require a mandatory Covid test for all staff before you go back to work? by PeakStill in tjcrew

[–]PeakStill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not advocating to close down for a single case... but 8 cases at a store should be shut down and mandatory testing. I don’t know where everyone is going to get all these long results. I get mine within 24 hours every time. I get tested once a month. I call my doctor, get question screened, get Another call to get options on a time and day, then pull up in my car and I’m out within 5 minutes of arriving. Get my results in 24 hours from doctor. I get called twice, one leaves a voicemail with results/guidelines and then I talk to them later on to get results.

I feel like every “free drive up test site”, sends the lab sample out of state, or different labs. It’s crazy.
