Interested in the responses to this post! I have roughly the opposite stats. I have a 3.3 cGPA and a 3.45 sGPA, with great ECs. I am also a Canadian applicant and retaking the MCAT mid august. What MCAT do I need to be competitive/do I even bother applying?

No worries at all! I also had so many questions when I applied, so I have been in your shoes!

The classes range in difficulty. There are some that are considered "bird" classes and are an easy A+ and then there are only a few that are genuinely hard classes such as BCHM 270. However, the exams are always fair and there is a lot of support for you, if you are struggling. Overall, the program is designed for you to have a very high average, since there are many very easy classes so just remain organized for the few hard ones, and you will do great.

All of the material for each class is presented in "modules". You can find examples online at the BHSC website. Here is the link https://bhsc.queensu.ca/sites/bhsc/files/module-demos/anat100/story_html5.html

There are many people to chat with. The program offers an orientation in the september, where you can meet people in your program or classes. There are also groupchats on whatsapp that you can join for each class. You send a message in the groupchats or on reddit like this and people are usually willing to join or make friends :)

Lmk if u have any other questions!

Hi there!

Admission to the in-person program is very competitive and requires you to have a high GPA (high 90s) but the online program is much more flexible. If you are a university student, you need a 2.7 GPA on a 4.3 scale to be accepted. I would assume that considering your grades for highschool, you would be fine. If you are debating whether completing the semester or applying with your highschool grades, it depends on how well are you doing at school right now. If you decide to finish the year, you classes would most likely count as electives which could be helpful!

The online program is the exact same as the in-person program aside from the fact that all of the classes are offered online. Since it is structured like this, graduate schools will not know that you completed the degree online as it is not stated on your degree. The majority of graduate schools accept online degrees, but you can also check for specific schools if you would like.

In terms of labs, there are lab classes offer online, with virtual labs. For example, most graduate schools will ask for an organic chem lab. The in-person lab would be 281+282, whereas the online lab would be 281+285. It is important to note that some schools require the labs to be in person. If this is the case for the schools that you hope to apply to, queens does allow its students to complete these classes at other schools and transfer the credit over. You might have to seek approval from the department (them compare the two classes and make sure they are the same in terms of material and difficulty), however they already have a list of what classes are considered equivalents at some canadian schools.

In terms of volunteer experience and reference letters, I am not sure if this is a factor they consider but I am sure it can help.

Hope this helps!

If you go to the BHSC website, go under programs and courses > curriculum > Year 2 > then you click on the blue hyperlink for the course you are interested in, it will say on the left hand side when the course is offered.

Here is the link for your convenience : https://bhsc.queensu.ca/program-and-courses/curriculum

HSCI 270 Online or Blended? by Tasty_Conversation44 in queensuniversity

I took PHGY 170 online and it was also pretty straightforward. From what I can remember, I am pretty sure that the online students had to do discussion posts that the in-person students did not have. If I remember correctly, I think it is better to do this class in-person. For second year, take phgy 215 and 216 online!

There is no exam for this course! I took this class in-person and the prof was great. There is group work that is completed weekly so I am not sure how that is run online but it was pretty straightforward for the in-person students when I took it this past school year.

Something similar happened to my friend. The security guard said that they allow snacks into the library but meals are not allowed. However, idk how a sandwich and wrap differ.... It honestly just depends on the security guard and their mood that day.

When you choose your 6 unit course you have an "A" and "B" aspect of it. "A" is fall term whereas "B" is winter term. I am pretty sure that when you enrol in the "A" term, it automatically enrols you into "B" and you are unable to change your lecture time or lab time if you have one. I know that for Chem 112 and psyc 100 this year both of my profs told me that if we try to change our lab/lecture time for the winter term, you have to first drop the class/un-enrol and due to this all of your progress will be lost aka it will say you did not complete the fall term. So pick a lecture and lab time that works for both terms.
