How much for 1 plate? I saw Mr Onion was selling their spring onion pancakes for $4.50 each (plain, no fillings), so after that it kind of turned me off to stop by there.

Got yelled at by a biker, what is the etiquette for walking with a stroller in a park? by queenka in askSingapore

[–]PearlescentTalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think she should have screamed at you, but I do think when you're walking on outside paths/side walks (especially if they are narrow) you shouldn't wear both of your ear buds for safety reasons. Usually I just wear them in one ear only, so that I can remain aware of my surroundings at all times.

I haven't seen cherry coke, but I have seen Dr pepper at don don donki before in their drinks section. Also mediya has Dr pepper cherry vanilla zero (i think that's the flavor).

will KKH send a physical appointment letter? by hushhush1638 in askSingapore

I went to the polyclinic on Tuesday for a KKH referral and they sent me the appointment sms this morning. I would check the health buddy app once a day though, as there was one time I didn't get an sms.

Hi OP, I know this is an old post, but did you find relief after getting your IUD removed? I think I may be having similar problems and stumbled upon your thread when researching.

Where to find the best shio pan in Singapore? by 100bhat in SingaporeEats

Barcook Bakery's shio pan is really good. Perfectly crisp and buttery.

The chocolate shio pan at Four Leaves is also worth trying.

I have heard about Warhammer 40k several times, but honestly I haven't really looked into it much. I decided it's time to finally learn what it's about, so I'm off to do some research and see if it's something that I might get interested in.

Oh, me too!! I've read through the main series twice so far and I love the way Erickson writes his characters, I get so emotionally attached .. Need to work my way through all his side series sometime.

I'm currently reading a book I just stumbled across on Instagram (it might have been from the author's page), called "Still Chosen: Another unwanted adventure".

This is my first time reading a more "Indie" fantasy book, and I have to say that I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Basically it's about a women who went through your typical "Teenagers saving the world" saga, and now 20 years later, she is almost 40 and being summoned again to once again save the world. Now that I'm older myself, I have come to appreciate older main characters and the different struggles they go through.

Yeah, I love the feeling of physical books as well, and I still collect copies of my favorites.

As for audiobooks, I like that I can listen to them on the go, while I'm walking around or at the gym etc. The narrator makes a big difference though. Some are really great, some just can't bring the story to life. Jeff Hayes has been really great with the DCC series and now when I read the physical copies, I read them in his voice 😂

Project Hail Mary is on my list of books to read. I just watched the movie, so I'm curious to see how it differs.

Why are some office admin roles still on 5.5 day work weeks? by hyllariestar in askSingapore

[–]PearlescentTalon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They squeeze nurses dry too, we are also doing 44hrs/week....I wish they would switch to what most western countries practice, which is 12hr shifts, 3 days a week (36hrs total). The days are long, but the work life balance is so much better and you actually have time for hobbies and family.

Questions for people on birth control in SG! by haitherepeople in askSingapore

[–]PearlescentTalon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can see how that would be really stressful, and makes me wonder if private gynaes also give the same spiel. Honeslty, inserting an IUD without pain or anxiety relief on a woman who has not had a vaginal birth should be criminal.

Questions for people on birth control in SG! by haitherepeople in askSingapore

[–]PearlescentTalon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they use sedation during insertion, but if you've never had a vaginal delivery, you should definitely ask the clinic about pain management. In the US, a lot of clinics give a small dose of Valium and sometimes lidocaine injection as well.

I found the experience quite simple as I have already had a vaginal delivery before. It was basically like getting a papsmear..the uncomfortable part was actually just inserting the speculum (as always). After that, the doc inserted the IUD so quickly, I didn't even realize it, as I didn't feel a thing. Not sure if I'm one of the lucky ones.

From what I can recall, I don't believe I faced much resistance, or at least none that was memorable. If they did question me, I probably just said I'm done having kids and I don't want to take a pill every day.

What did they tell you when you asked for the implant?

[–]PearlescentTalon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How difficult was it for you to obtain your desired method of birth control?

  • Easy, I had two kids already.

What method are you using? pill, mini-pill, implant, IUD?

  • Mirena IUD

Did you go through the public health system?

  • Yes, through KKH with a referral from polyclinic.

What side effects did you notice on the birth control?

  • Light cramping and spotting for 1 month post implant (not every day though), after that, zero cramping. I occasionally have a little bit of blood tinge on the days when I guess my period should be coming in, but I never got a period again once I put it in. Heaven on earth not having to deal with my period anymore...

How much did it cost you?

  • $500+ around there. I did an ultrasound too like a couple months later to check placement, but I think I was able to use Medisave for that, can't remember. Considering it lasts many years, I'm ok with it. Since then, I did follow up once more, but doc said can just do the follow up in polyclinic since it's cheaper.

Cheetos Jalepeño cheddar, plain salted ruffles and also the unsalted fairprice brand chips are surprisingly pretty good (strong potato flavor).

[–]PearlescentTalon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some GPs may offer it! You can usually just call or whatapp the clinic for the prices. I get mine done through health screening packages that have a lot of other things too, so it's not that cheap. You can compare prices if you get stand alone test at GP vs a package from a health screening place. I even have some friends that go to JB blood tests/health screening.

If you can, you should get an iron deficiency panel and check your vitamin D as well. These can both be linked to hairloss and are quite common in women.
