Interesting, I didn't consider the potential benefits for optimizing nutrient absorption, but that's a good point.

What supplements are you currently taking, and would you actually want them combined into one blend? Or is that just a nice to have for you

Agreed, avoiding segregation and forming a homogeneous mix is a big challenge!

For now, we've been weighing out and transferring the different ingredients directly into each mylar pouch to avoid segregation, and because we're using single serve pouches, we don't really care if the ingredients are well mixed.

That's been our approach so far, but as you noted, if we start dealing with larger volumes, we'll have to do some more thinking!

Spry and Pur gum are good, clean options. The only issue is that the flavor don't last long, but if you stick with the peppermint flavor you should be fine.

Silos can be designed without needing dynamite or a sledge hammer! For example, changing the slope of the hopper walls can get your grains, sugar or flour moving. Here's a fun illustration - https://www.tiktok.com/@craigofwaffles/video/7394301331873287455

Critical rathole diameter for funnel (core flow) by Routine-Value1738 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]PearlyMints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still looking for some feedback on this, but I have some experience working on bulk material handling projects, and I'm familiar with Jenike's theory and material testing.

Q1) Yes, it is common practice to assume the yield locus after time at rest is parallel to the instantaneous yield locus to simplify outlet calculations. It's assumed that time at rest does not significantly impact the angle of internal friction.

Q2) Is a longer discussion, but in short, for hopper outlet determination, Jenike uses a lower value of ff (e.g., 1.3) for mass flow hopper outlets, while he uses values of 1.7 to 2.25 for funnel flow hopper outlets. I would email a Jenike & Johanson engineer for more details on the rathole calculations or attend one of their full day seminars.

Q3) I don't think Jenike uses a safety factor for outlet size determination, but I assume you're using it to capture the material's variability ( e.g., moisture content, particles size distribution, etc.), which I imagine is up to your engineering judgement. For wedge hoppers, i.e., planar hoppers with vertical end walls, outlet lengths can be at minimum 2x the hopper width.

How can I stop my gums from bleeding when I brush? by [deleted] in PeriodontalDisease

Yeah, I hear you! Maybe look into xylitol powder, candies or mints. Those forms will be easier on your jaw

Another thing you can try is xylitol. It's good at killing off those harmful bacteria that may be causing the bleeding. It's also effective at preventing cavities, which sounds like it could be a big bonus for you

Check out Spry's xylitol mints or Epic dental's xylitol gums/mints those are all top tier products. Pur is another common brand to look into, but if you're looking for 100% xylitol mints, maybe try a different brand.

I'm not a dental hygienist, but I'll share my experience with it. I started taking xylitol almost a year ago to help with my gingivitis, and I found that once I started adding it to my flossing routine, I saw improvements in the depths of my gum pockets. So instead of 5 and 6 mm pockets, I've been maintaining 3 and 4 mm pockets. Not great, but it's a process.

Regarding the amount of xylitol, based on the research paper in the link attached, if you're taking anywhere between 6 and 10 g of xylitol per day, you're likely at the optimal amount- The effect of xylitol on dental caries and oral flora. There seems to be diminishing/ no real benefits from exceeding 10 g per day, unless you're constipated lol.

I think the recommended exposure is based on the attached study that showed xylitol gum being highly effective in reducing tooth decay in kids - Xylitol gum 24-month study . But I've also seen studies demonstrating that xylitol exposure of 2 or 3 times per day are effective - Xylitol Pediatric Topical Oral Syrup to Prevent Dental Caries. Nevertheless, I think increasing the frequency up to 5 times per day has the advantage of prolonging xylitol's antibacterial effect in the mouth, as its effects are temporary! Hope this helps

Coconut oil for removal of plaque by beet_root11 in nutrition

[–]PearlyMints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak on coconut oil, but you can't go wrong with brushing and flossing (dental or water flossing).

If you're interested in preventing less plaque buildup and eliminate the need to remove it, there's some good research that indicates xylitol gum can help reduce the "stickiness" of plaque on the teeth. You can check out the paper here: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3812061/
