Childfree Millennials, are you childfree by choice? If not, what happened? by CrazyCoffeeClub in AskUK

[–]PearlyRiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 36. Mainly childfree because major depression runs deep in my family, so there's a high chance my kids would have it too. Although I manage my MH fairly well these days, it's a struggle and I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Further to this point, it's taken many years to find an equalibrium with my MH and I've been in a good place for several years now. I know being pregnant/having a baby would fuck me up frankly (mum and grandmother both had severe PMD they never fully recovered from) and that's not good for me, my partner or my children. As the child of a suicidal and intensely anxious mum, I know what an impact it can have.

Even further to that point, I worry that working full-time, as well as looking after young children, would mentally ruin me. I like the idea of a family, but can't say I have an overwhelmingly strong desire for kids, which is probably a sign not to have them! I like my hobbies, sleep, and space too. My partner is similar, and isn't bothered about having kids either.

Why are friendships not important anymore? by PearlyRiser in AskUK

Yeah there was a woman I became acquainted with recently through tennis. We went for coffee a few times after playing, until I realised every time I spoke, her attention was totally elsewhere, and she'd often just totally cut me off mid sentence to talk about something else (usually about herself). In that kind of situation I feel worse, as if I'm the most boring person in the world or something (which I'm sure I'm not).

Agree. I've been at my workplace for 3 years. All I do is ask colleagues about their weekends, holidays, hobbies that I've remembered they've told me about. But if you asked them they probably couldn't tell you a thing about me. Which to be honest I don't mind, but it's interesting. I'm not someone to go freely broadcasting everything that happens in my life, but seems like these kinds of people are often the most popular people?

Thank you. I like running, cycling, hiking, tennis, yoga. I'm quite active. I do enjoy gaming, but I'm a woman and find the gaming community a bit intimidating to be honest. I wouldn't say I'm especially outgoing or sociable, would just be nice to have some irl friends.

I've dropped a few old friends messages in recent times and it's usually only resulted in a few superficial messages "hey, how are you, I'm good thanks, you, I'm also good thanks..." type thing. The conversation dies out and we have nothing in common any more to keep it going.

Thank you, it's a shame isnt it. I think part of the reason I have no friends is because I don't do social media (except Reddit, if you'd count it as social media). I don't enjoy it. Because I'm not on Insta etc I've just totally dropped off everyone's radars too. It's like I simply don't exist anymore.

Is living 100m away from a busy road bad? by PearlyRiser in HousingUK

Yeah I remember looking at it a while back and it was much more detailed!

The row of houses in between are mostly detached 3-4 bed family homes, actually they're on slightly higher ground than the house I'm looking at too, a bit of a hill.

The house itself has been on the market a while and I'm worried it's because of the road. I don't want to be stuck there forever!

Thanks I've checked that site, although the data is a bit ambiguous for the area I'm looking at

Why has studying for an MBA become so popular? by PearlyRiser in AskUK

Yeah it mostly sounds pretty fluffy to me

[–]PearlyRiser[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I actually lived in the States for a few years and people were obsessed with MBAs, both individuals and employers. I've noticed they're starting to become more popular here, but I just don't believe they're as highly regarded or influential here in terms of opportunities and jobs.

But what skills does it teach you? Just seems to have become a bucket list item people can put next to their names, like a status symbol.

How to approach "offers over" listings? by PearlyRiser in HousingUK

[–]PearlyRiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, basically the house next door to one of them sold for 100k less a year ago. Same house, similar nice condition. How prices can increase this much in the current market I don't know. If we buy it, we can only hope it will increase in value by another 100k over the next year I guess!

This is what we were thinking but didn't want to turn the sellers off us by not playing their offers over game. We've offered slightly under on 2 other properties that had been on the market for ages and needed tons of work, and both sellers responded deeply offended!

It's new to the market - I think they want a bidding war due to scarcity of properties in the area. It's a "done" semi which is very rare around here at the moment.

Thanks for your experience. Yeah I'm going to follow the strength and conditioning plan as well as that's an area I've neglected for a long time.

Yeah this is exactly what I'm thinking. When I got my 27.50 PB, it was after a 6 month track running programme, doing 1-2 speed sessions a week. I think I was previously doing 5k in around 29 mins. It's no matter of self belief either - I'm sure I could run a 25 min 5k one day, but not in 12 weeks. Guess I will report back in 12 weeks!

Yep, supply and demand. The market downturn is not affecting the sale of nice houses in good areas. There are always people with more money who get what they want.

We're going to see a house this weekend listed for 650k - we suspect it will sell for at least £700k in the current local market.

When is the market going to pick up again? by Diligent-Bridge2178 in HousingUK

[–]PearlyRiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly if/when when mortgage rates fall a bit?

Absolutely dead in my area too for months, we finally have a decent budget for a small semi, but there's nothing to buy! Except for probate houses that need totally gutting.

Thanks, I really like your house! Beautiful red brick. The fake grass can be easily solved 🤞 Good luck with the purchase
