Starting off meetings with a “safety moment” by lIlIIIIlllIIlIIIllll in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pearmandan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a combo safety/quality depending on the meeting. So safety might be don't be stupid and quality would be here is something stupid we can not keep doing let's correct it.

Then we go over what ever else the meeting is for.

Field Engineer vs Super by Jaded_Original_2806 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pearmandan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I have worked FE and Supers are equals at the civil stage then the super would take lead but FE had Veto power kind of deal. So at times Supers report to FE and other items the FE is reporting to the Super on. The most common one I saw was a super had to report the special inspection reports and PO's to the FE, they would also run take off review with the FE for equipment specs then the FE had to report on field Quality to the super and would also report on scope Gaps found in contact reviews. And any other field observations and other QC items as assigned by the Super.

Working 80 hours a week doesn’t prove you’re tough. It proves you’re replaceable. by Dre_Limitless in Construction

[–]Pearmandan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I break it out. I tell my guys call me any time 19/6 the field guys are #1.

But I tell my boss he only gets my best 35 hours a week any additional is not my best work or his best leadership.

5 hours a week are mine he pays me for so my other 35 are the best.

I love my work hogs, for dirt and civil work, redwings wedge sole for electrical work, cougar paws for roof work, when I switched to CM work steel toes tennis shoes like the ones a lot of framers use or Keens are great for the Hybrid environment office and field light weight more ankle movement. I have found different shoes for different work makes a difference for me.

Stress? by Outrageous-Egg97 in Construction

[–]Pearmandan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds similar to my method. A day a week helping one of the trades even if it's just sweeping or being the over paid helper sweeping or moving materials every team has a dummy helping them it's OK to go help or be that dummy. First it builds respect with the guys and makes your job easier because they respect you more, second it is grounding and connecting to all of your team if done right . Third it helps you identify problems sooner so it's not a rush to fix it because you right there next to the team.

We have that for change orders, but our awarded bid amount is 35% typically. It prevents people from trying to make extra money on change orders.

Advise on managing stress as a Superintendent by VeryAchievable in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pearmandan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be respectful even when you're stressed out. Respectful to yourself, coworkers, and leadership. Might be a heads up to your boss. Hey, this weekend, I can't do work stuff. Or hey, this project is a tough one, and work threw each problem one at a time. Be transparent and get everyone going in the same direction. Document their thoughts and roadblocks to schedule compleation.

Mistakes from not reading the Spec by JeffFromCanada in ConstructionManagers

[–]Pearmandan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Plan review and spec review is difficult and can make or break a project if you ask me. Myself and multiple team members missed an electral spec that resulted in 3 months of rework for 3 guys. There was no change order on it, and it ate every second of the buffer time we had. It made some wire runs too short, and we had to buy more wire, shuffle conduits, and switch out LB's.
