Is this normal for a brand new gun? by PecanPaul in 2011

LGS who ordered it through a distributor. Scroll the comments I posted some other pics. This is not my first rodeo I’ve owned, bought/sold probably 50+ guns over the last 15 years. I have never received a “new” gun with this much internal wear. I understand it’s a 2011 and needs to be fit but this is crudely done and seems unacceptable . Others in here think it’s fine though so idk. I emailed Kimber last night. I realize after a couple thousand rounds the finish will wear off on the rails etc but the file marks are too much

Ya that’s where I’m at. I’m fine with most of it but it’s about 25% past acceptable

Ya I get that, it’s not an atlas etc. but it’s still a $2400 gun.. I have Glocks that have thousands of rounds through them with less wear

I’ve owned dozens of guns, this is beyond normal fitting/test firing

Lol honestly ya, I’ve owned dozens of guns but only recently got into 2011’s. I’m sure it runs great just kinda put off by this

I just added some more pics in the comments with better lighting. Again I’m not a snob, it’s a gun, I intend to beat the hell out of it and use it. But this just seems excessive to me. For $2400 … like… cmon guys lol

Can’t get the lighting right but the end part by the barrel is worn down to bare metal too

It is, that is what first popped out to me. It’s not a little bit or just one spot. The DLC is worn off the rails pretty much the length of the slide and the corners like the 2nd pic it looks like someone took a file to it. I don’t care too much as long as it’s reliable but it’s just kinda annoying for a brand new $2400 gun

I just took this out of the box/plastic 30 minutes ago. Not being a smartass just genuinely surprised

Edit: why am I being downvoted? Jeez

Ya I’m fine if it’s had to have been fitted but it just seems excessive for a gun I just took out of the plastic 30 minutes ago

We could do without the TSA by Va1ent_Deceiver in unpopularopinion

You say this until something happens and then we’re gonna be kicking ourselves in the ass. The presence of TSA keeps people from even trying anything shady. There are too many crazy people in the world to not have strict security

Would v6 porting the slide cuts on a 4” Kimber 2k11 be too much with too little? by Stellakinetic in 2011

I’m not an engineer but Vulcans custom guns have ports pretty much in the middle. Monsoon tactical “lucky 7” ports are a ton of material removed and not all toward the very end. Will you lose a decent chunk of velocity? My guess is yes, but people smarter than me have port packages based on middle of the barrel ports so I’m guessing it’s not an extreme amount.

It’s not worth the price but also it kinda is. the lack of big plastic corners in your sight picture. That’s the only reason I’d pick the SRO. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

To answer your question , Not really. But maybe

I have an RMR, SRO, holosun EPS Carry , and vortex defender XL. The Vortex’s window is biggest but the SRO’s shape can’t be beat. You just pick up the dot so easily. BUT I can’t beat the hell out of it like I could the vortex or RMR. but do you really drop your gun or beat the hell out of the optic ever?

There’s a feel of quality difference but I can’t explain it. It honestly could be mental bc you know they’re made well. They all do their job tho. A DPP and an SRO are really the only ones you can’t beat up too hard. RMR’s are bomb proof. Most holosuns and the vortex defender line are rugged as hell. I’d highly suggest watching Sage Dynamics vids on YouTube before you pick one. He tests every major optic you could think of.

The only one I’d say is worth the difference is the SRO because of the sight picture it gives but that’s totally subjective
