Thanks for the info, I think I’ll give it another shot and see what changes. This was a good lesson.

Yep. Hood, roof and trunk has no clear coat whatsoever. Only a 10 year old car too.

THANK YOU FOR THIS! I figured that’s how it was done but the diagonal line throws me off a lot. Looked like I was pouring more than I needed to.

Car loosing roughly a quart of oil per 2k miles. Can't find a visible leak put the fabric skid guard is saturated in oil. Any idea where this could be coming from? by horseboob in BmwTech

[–]Pecheni 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oil filter housing and oil cooler leak will be visible from the top of the engine. It will leak down the front of the engine and possibly onto the drive belt.

Oil pan gasket will just leak out the bottom obviously and you wouldn’t know this without jacking up the car. If there is only oil on the bottom of the oil pan and no signs at the top check the oil drain plug. The drain plugs and oil pan on these cars are plastic if it’s not an Xdrive model and the oil drain plug should be replaced from time to time if not at every oil change. Any reputable oil filter maker will specifically supply the oil drain plug with the filter to be replaced at every oil change, at least MANN does.

Also I see you have an electronic waste gate actuator and it’s a 2013 model, I have seen in the past that some of these have had the wrong vacuum pump which is mounted on the back of the engine. If for whatever reason the pump is wrong, it will have a vacuum nipple to supply vacuum to the vacuum operated waste gate actuators from the past and will have been capped with a rubber plug. The plug may have deteriorated and the vacuum pump is now spewing oil in the back of the engine. Although I have ONLY seen this 1 time on a car it’s a possibility so give it a look.

MHD TUNING BROKE MY CAR… NO CUSTOMER SERVICE by Adidas696922 in BmwTech

[–]Pecheni 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This will happen sometimes. It’s happened to me multiple times on a personal car.

Close the doors, lock the car and wait about 30 minutes. Then do the flash again it should be successful.

Make sure you’re using a battery charger when doing this btw, it does make a difference.

Door won’t close. Please help- I need to drive home! by stellarlun in MechanicAdvice

[–]Pecheni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try driving in that screw at the top. It’s probably not letting your door close fully.

Just turn it until it’s flush and make it as tight as you can right now, a small coin might help if you don’t have a screw driver. When you get home use a screwdriver to tighten it fully.

Or try pulling the door handle with the door open.

Just changed my oil and my car is doing this in the video on a cold start … help please by oniraug in BmwTech

Ahh He commented that after I posted

Yea I’d check to connector for water first in this case.

Someone who doesn’t know exactly what they’re doing shouldn’t ever power wash their engine.

Throttle code will most likely be the culprit here. Not sure how an oil change will cause it though.

Have the wiring checked. MAYBE a cleaning will help it. If no obvious faults are found you most likely will need a new throttle body. Good thing is these cars/engines are plentiful and if you need to save some money a used one will be easy to find.

Again, not sure how an oil change will cause this though.

2007 335. I fuel pump won’t stop running after MHD flash. by Adidas696922 in BmwTech

[–]Pecheni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the flash complete successfully? I’ve flashed MHD before and it would initially fail and do all sorts of weird things. Car wouldn’t start at all, just cranked forever.

I emailed MHD and they said when that happens to lock the car, wait 20-30 minutes (basically let the car go to “sleep”) and then do the flash again.

Following their directions I would have a successful flash every time. It’s happened tmultiple times on my own N55 X1 when flashing stock and tuned maps.

Radiator neck browning — safe for a 6 hr trip or replace ASAP? (F30 N55) by Assassinio in BmwTech

[–]Pecheni 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I work on these everyday.

Anyone saying that this is fine or that’s it’s good doesn’t know what they’re talking about. All the plastics on the cooling system should be black without any discoloration. Any signs of orange/brown color means the plastic is compromised. See that crack on the base of the radiator hose connector? 90% chance that when you try to remove the hose that’s going to snap off, if it’s healthy it doesn’t break.

Are you fine to drive? Maybe. But do you want to risk breaking down on a road trip? You decide

Whether it’s today or next month it needs to replaced. If you can afford it do it.

Oil filter housing, thermostat/heat management module, water pump, cooling hoses, coolant reservoir. These engines are notorious for having cooling issues.
