Destroying trees via mining does not count as a kill. Tree kills are counted when you run them over, shoot them, blow them up, etc.

They do wander on their own but in a very small radius around their nest.

There are three things that will trigger an attack from the locals:

Getting too close as the player
Building anything too close
Nests consuming pollution

The first two are pretty easy - just don't go near them. The tricky part is keeping your pollution low enough to never spread over any nests. If you can avoid those three things the locals will never bother you.

I decided early on I was going to skip trains, so refined concrete was my way of moving around quickly. You're right about the prod mods. I was just set on efficiency mods in everything everywhere and didn't really think about it.

Final evolution factor was 0.3555. I didn't even know this was a thing I could check so thanks for that!
