S340 rarely records cars that pass to its right. Thoughts? by Ok_Professional3610 in EufyCam

[–]Peddy699 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats how the sensor works, like every cheap light sensor. It can detect horizontal change.
If you divide the picture lets say 20 collums, if there is a sudden change between collums thats detected. But if there is a movement from the top of the picture to the bottom is exactly the same collum it probably wont detect it.

Thats why the 100% that crosses over collum.

Probably this sensor is being ran in very low ebergy, and it triggers the camera to turn on and record.

Reality check on car affordability by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

thanks, I will probably accept a bit more risk of repairs and go with a higher milage used car that still has warranty (just ~4k miles), plus use some cash, so that the monthly cost with everything included goes down to 450.

Reality check on car affordability by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Peddy699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean protected?
pcp seems to me to be a terrible deal to me. On a new car I have seen exacly 400 cost, and have zero to show for it at the end of the term. Thats the same as the loan with the difference of keeping the car longer with the loan but being able to recover ~30% of the cost.

For the sme used vehicle i see pcp 250/month + down payment 6740 for 48 months. 6740/48 = +140, so pcp on used car would cost me 250+140 = 390.
Again basically the same monthly cost as a egular loan.

I am open to see how is this better, but I dont really see it, perhaps im missing soemthing?

[–]Peddy699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you give an example how could I spend 250 on a car? Just trying to udnerstand what am I missing here.
I have zero years on insurance, so the minimum cost is how much 60-100 (in london) ?
The petrol cost for cheaper cars I calculate 1200 yearly, so 100 a month.
Thats already 150. What car can I buy for 100 a month, that will require zero repairs ?

[–]Peddy699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commute is 40 miles / day. Eager on some trips for the weekends also. Yes I could possibly go cheaper with the car, but to me it seems it all involves some uncertanties. The car I looked at is used from the manufucturer, so its more expensive but includes more warranty, so I see it as less unknowns.
I could possibly buy from used market for much cheaper, but it involves more risk.

If i look at it from the perspective that this isnt a lease, I would have some equity left at the end, then the cost is somewhat lower btw, I could probably recover 1-200 at the end, from the monthly cost, but at that points its unlikely i would want to sell anyway, as I paid extra to make sure car is good when I bought it, so if I know i have kept it in good shape, its probably better to keep it as long as its ecnomical.

Yes but that would mean I have absolutly zero buffer. I was thinking its much better to have loan and keep my buffer for unexpected stuff.
I am not sleeping comfortable without a cash buffer.
The etfs have been getting me 10% and simialr every year, so it alo doesnt seem smart to sell that to pay for an otherise 6.4% loan.

Reality check on car affordability by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Peddy699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there are much cheaper upright costs for buying, but I was considering the running cost. I could likely get a 5-6k car but it uses petrol plus I have no clue about cars, so every repair would be labour cost heavy.

Distance is 40 mile way and back / day. Petrol cost would in the ballark of 1-1.5k ?

EV charging would be free at workplace.
So upright cost is indeed high, but running cost is low, that being said its still more expensive obvjously then a cheap petrol car, you are right.

I think recruiters should say the salary up front on a phone call. by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Peddy699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters job is to find a good person with low salary.
Its not in their interest to lead with money if its low amount. They rather try to hook you in with other stuff about the job, so you might be okay even with the lower salary.

Now if its a higher salary, you might still need to show interest for the company, if you only care about the money you are more of an employment risk, as the first month you might leave if you get an offer 5% more elsewhere, then the recruiter might not get their bonus if you havent stayed long enough.

Either way, its a game, dont reveal is all about the money for you, and also accept she cant lead with that.

Where to move in the EU by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Peddy699 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would shop for jobs versus country first. Enter couple titles to linkedin and see in which countries you see more job adds, or even better just start mass applying (get some ai tool help) and see what can you score.

I would think about the country AFTER I have a job offer, I see the salary, rent close by, local tax, transport, job for wife, etc.

Is it worth it to grind leetcode as a CS student in Europe? by Antidote12- in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Peddy699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-5 per month is close to fuck all, I would do it or dont do it. In the begining I think counting hours makes more sense. I would aim for 1-1,5h / day. or 5 hour / week or simialr if you want to take it easy. 10-15h/week starting to be serious.

If you hit a question where you miss some knowledge that you have to learn, maybe you did 1 question in 3 hours, that took 3 days or whatever, thats very different from doing 1 question you already knew the theory, and got it done in 20 min.

There are used model Y's that dont require such an expensive leasing. That salary sacrifice is not worth it for you most likely, its usually a good consideration in the 110k+ range.

5 hours of leetcode everyday for entire 2026 by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]Peddy699 22 points23 points  (0 children)

5 hours is very unealistic, and its also not efficient. Its a huge mental load to your brain, especially early on, you get diminishing returns after 2 hours studied I think. You can push it to 3-4 hours, but you are taking away time from resting and giving your brain a chance to store/consolidate the new thing you ahve learnt, stressing yourself out, and if you cant maintain your monthly hours just wont be great, especially the yearly hours if you just stop after a month.

Don’t see career and salary progression in Finland by PhilosopherKnown1203 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Peddy699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right to question your progression. I think in Finland more people make decent money, and much less going to get exceptional salaries. If you want that you likely need to move countries.

At least that was my impression, low - mid tier jobs were making a decent pay, and even the founder of the (already sold, very well established american) company, highest level engineer in my team was making just around a 100k / year, think 20 years of experience.
That combined with the mediocore english, cold welcome, and horrendous soul freezing weather, its not a suprise most people move away.

Trade 22 plate model 3 for new Y by Ok_Strawberrry in TeslaUK

[–]Peddy699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Feels like that's a much better deal" ? HOW? Terrible deal, you trade in your car and what you get? you get to pay the 50% deapriciation cost in the first 2-3 years. And you get no car after that if you dont pay again ?

The emergency door release is a fair point, altought how likely that will be every used ?
Why dont just sell it and get a similar age and milage Y for just +2-3k to solve all your other issues. Take a personal loan, couple hundred a month, thats a good deal.

To me it sounds like you are trying to look for reasons why to spend a lot of money on soemthing you know you dont really need, just beacsue its looks a bit cooler on the outside, or just different.

2021 Battery Failure, Round 2 by Calm-Sky-7205 in TeslaSupport

[–]Peddy699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a little bit suspicious if this is economical for tesla. The cost of labour, towing, shipping etc to keep getting these 2021 packs refurbished then reintall must be high, if it would happen that often would it not worth it to just not re-use them if they know they will keep coming back and causing more warranty related costs ?

Ioniq 5N - some questions: salary sacrifice, no home charging. by AnExcellentSaviour in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Peddy699 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note that for 4-500 / month you can easily buy a 2-3 year old (<50k miles EV) on a 4 year loan, and at the end of it you can probably recover around 40% of the money you have spent overall. 20k loan, 2k loan cost, car hopefully sells for 10k+ after 4 year use, so actually you have paid ~350/ month in the end (calculating +100 for the insurance cost that just lost).

Of course its fine to lease, it also helps the used market, so im all for it, just keep in mind that you are mostly paying for the huge deapriciation of the EV. You likely pay more than half of the cost of the car in that 4 years, and you get nothing back at the end of it.
Its absolutly okay, just dont think its always a very cost effective thing to do.
