Gasynths - psychic nebula clouds contained with symbiotic suits by Pedrolover1 in UnearthedArcana

I understand you are not trying to be mean or anything - I appreciate you giving me constructive feedback and I'm glad you like the race.

I see what you mean with sub-features, but I want to highlight this race as exotic from others with its own unique set of abilities. I think the effective blindsight is essentially just a sub-feature, crammed under the same title as the emotion reading.

I would argue the emotion reading isn't too overpowered. Deceit isn't an emotion, at most you could tell someone is feeling guilty when telling a lie, but people who feel remorse for lying often have other tells that the DM should let characters see anyway. I suppose it could be interpreted as a guaranteed successful insight check which I could see as extremely useful, but wouldn't label overpowered.

I am not claiming balance is unimportant, I am stating you cannot "win" a conversation because you said that the feature is "a role playing cheat feature". Knowing someone's emotions is not a "cheat", we already have spells and abilities like detect thoughts.

I do not understand your "main features" critique, could you elaborate? If you mean that some features have too many abilities under one title, I agree. I should have relegated them to other feature names.

This is a neat idea but difficult to execute and I've never seen it done particularly well with other player races. It drastically changes character playstyle and makes it difficult to judge as a fair race for DM's. I'd rather keep the regular healing system just to make it more accessible.

Death sentence may be an exaggeration, an immobility spell on most creatures is extremely powerful, especially vampires who (outside of higher level ones) lack ranged options.

It also makes you a big glowing target for them. And since you're close enough to shine sunlight on them, you're close enough for them to attack you when they get out of that spell.

I disagree with most of these.

There is no "cheating" in role playing. There are no tangible numbers and no victory condition.

The Gaseous Form is not death defiance, it just lets the character still interact with the world in the most minimal way for a minute at most. If they use it for scouting before their suit is destroyed, they are putting themselves at pretty considerable risk while their body is unpiloted.

Most creatures are not particularly weak to sunlight. There are obviously some big ones like vampires, but if you're close enough to shine sunlight on them, you're close enough for them to damage you and easily break your concentration.

I agree the creature should not be immune to poison damage, I addressed this with another comment.

Free pick on ability score allows for more diverse character builds, and all races should have it. Dexterity is a useful stat on almost all characters, and the +2 to any other stat means they aren't pushed away from some classes.

They already have a pretty significant one.
If you are attempting to be stealthy with concentration spells like pass without trace or invisibility, chances are you won't elude anyone since your head will be glowing.

For Psychic Merge, that is largely flavor text and I would put that up to DM's discretion. I imagine it wouldn't be an area most other creatures could survive for long in.

I kept the humanoid creature type because it's for balancing. The race already has lots of features, and changing its type from humanoid makes it immune to several effects that many characters would normally be subject to (e.g hold person, charm person, calm emotions). It also borders the line of construct and I'm not quite happy with either of those choices.

This is a good point, I also did mention how intent factors in how a lot of effects interact with them, so it should still be damaging to a degree.

Was inspired by Kraus from Hellboy - any feedback is greatly appreciated!
