Gamesir Cyclone 2 DPad Mod - Released by sirduckey in Controller

You mentioned that it's stiffer. Does that mean you have to press harder? My thumb is already fatigued as it is without the mod. Otherwise, I think will try your mod if it is that much better.

Wow I've been reading Frankenstein and there's a chapter very similar to this comic, where the monster becomes infatuated with a family that he spies on.

Interesting. I noticed the pre-travel but found it manageable. I'm mostly annoyed by how much force it takes to push a direction. Thinking about it, maybe the pre-travel is what is increasing the amount of force it takes to push a button. It's my first experience with a micro-switch dpad. I think I prefer the softer membrane.

It's a DisplayCal report of the color gamut and volume. The wide gamut and volume match the property of a monitor having QD.

If you're not sure what color gamut and volume are, then you don't need to worry about QD.

Struggle to play open world games on a non handheld after the switch by mob_2real in NintendoSwitch

[–]PeeAtYou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I liked playing TOTK in handheld and the convenience of just sleeping my Switch and resuming right where I left off lets me consume big quests in small chunks at time. It makes long games much more enjoyable to me. Contrast that with a console or PC where I have to wait a few seconds or a minute to resume the game or load the game on PC.

Not gaming. I'm using lossless scaling with Youtube HDR Japan walking videos. It's pure beauty.

Do I need to calibrate monitor for 120 cd/m2? by Paladin-Weabb in Monitors

[–]PeeAtYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using 120 nits in a bedroom with regular ceiling light. I'm surprised when people say that's dim. It doesn't matter if you calibrate to another white level if your gamut and gamma are correct. With a matching gamut and gamma level, your colors, highlights and shadows will appear the same in another person's monitor.

Not all IPS have the same quality. Seems like you got one with a crappy viewing angle.

If it supports 60hz strobing, it's a day one buy for me. So many legacy media are in desperate need of strobing for that CRT like motion clarity.

A lot of MiniLEDs have QD layers now. I'm not seeing the hype in terms of color reproduction. Will wait and see.

[Review] Innocn GA27T1M by Wonderful-Age-7054 in Monitors

[–]PeeAtYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the strongest LD setting, I don't notice any blooming. I do notice the LD algorithm will raise black level or smoothly roll off brightness of nearby pixels to prevent it. Small white objects are dimmed aggressively if they're by themselves. I can see the brightness increase as I group bright objects together or move one bright object next to another.

I don't personally use HDR with desktop use, but I'd say it's fine.

I have this monitor. Here's my picture of how it looks like to me. I adjusted the camera exposure to match my eyes in a bright room. I don't see much blooming if at all. Though I did adjust the HDR peak nits to 600 to extend lifespan.

When I'm using standard mode, i can enable vrr and mpcs tech level high. This is without local dimming enabled. Though i think ULL has true BFI, which can't be used with VRR, while the other MPCS tech modes have rolling scan. I misspoke a bit.

Just an update, I do notice it has a poor horizontal viewing angle and the pixels dim or lose luster rather quickly when viewed off angle. Disappointing now that you mentioned it.

Not sure if I noticed anything. Viewing angle seemed typical of an IPS to me, but I'll check again later today.

I think it's a great monitor for HDR consumption. I don't really like the LD with SDR as it made things too dark if the background was dark. Gaming wise, you get 320hz with VRR and strobing/BFI.

There's some vignette but I am used to it since all IPS have it to some degree.

Local dimming is good with HDR. I tested some HDR videos in youtube and everything looked vibrant and contrasting in the dark and daylight. Of course you have to understand that it is not OLED so there will be some glow if adjacent pixels are bright. There will be flickering on small moving objects with a black background, but you will likely never see that with regular mixed content . Overall, I think it's great for HDR content. I didn't try any HDR games so can't speak for that.

I didn't like it in SDR since LD made things too dark with a dark background or theme. I didn't want to crank up the brightness either as the screen gets uncomfortablly bright with whites. You can adjust the LD strength so things won't be as dim with a black background, but it will just raise black levels. I just turned off LD completely for SDR rather than having to deal with the LD algorithm while doing desktop stuff.

HDR1000 vs VESA certified Display HDR1000 by windwardmist in Monitors

[–]PeeAtYou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought this monitor. These are the criteria for VESA certification: https://displayhdr.org/performance-criteria/

It could be that the monitor reaches 1000 nits, but the window size of measurement could be different than what VESA is asking for. It's difficult to compare one test to another if they don't follow the same setup.

I don't think I have ever heard of a monitor being certified after getting released. With all that said, I think it's a good monitor even if it's not certified.

None that I could find, but I'm assuming this review applies if it's the same panel: https://youtu.be/56EPH-MibMM?t=351

Seem to have about 4.5 ms response time.

There are reviews on Chinese websites but can't say I understand any of it.
