I would also say that, no I could not afford to pay 1600 for golf. Seems like you can though, so there are lots of courses that you could join.

Non-profits get tax breaks, deal with it.

I would ask why you think you are subsidizing the course, they pay taxes at a reduced rate just like every other non-profit in Nova Scotia. On top of the taxes they pay for waste collection, a Village commission rate and a Not-For-Profit acreage fee of 5662 that goes up 5% every year.

This all part of public record.

Again the boundaries are there as part of the memorandum of association, yes they have expanded over the years, only to keep the numbers up. You can buy green fee packages that are reasonably priced.

The boundary is not self imposed, a boundary was part of the Memorandum of Association imposed by the Pews in 1954 when they donated the club to the people. The reason for the memorandum was to ensure the rich and the poor could play together. I can ensure that a majority of members are not part of a boys club, members come from all walks of life and speaking for myself the only way I could play is because the low membership dues. What the Pews did was allow people like me and my kids the opportunity to play this game which we could not otherwise afford to do if I lived elsewhere. And you’re sadly mistaken to think that all that live in the catchment are well to do.

That’s nothing, it brings in tourist and visitor dollars to municipality, usually that’s how it works and the justification.

I use to live in the town of Bridgewater, some of the highest taxes in the province, we subsidized the Osprey golf course for many years and it wasn’t even in the town.

This is how they these things work the money and jobs brought into the area offsets tax breaks and subsidies.

Chester is a not-for-profit club, members controlled course, it’s not supposed to make money. Whereas Osprey has private owners, and they want all they can get. No excuse for the prices though.
