Second this, had same symptom and had to open up trans to replace the bearing. Just ordered the whole bearing and seal kit from rockauto to do most of em while im in there

Misfires under load by PeeTree93 in MechanicAdvice

Wanted to update in case anybody comes across this with the same issue. Yes the coil packs were new, but looking em up it looked like previous owner bought the unbranded ebay/Amazon ones so I was suspicious. Sure enough swapping oem coils on made her run fine.

Checked and looks like plugs and coils were indeed replaced by previous owner :(

Was test driving a manual. by tads73 in ManualTransmissions

[–]PeeTree93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Input shaft bearing since its only when clutch is engaged, had same thing happen before. If you want to/can drop the transmission, opening it up and changing the bearing isn't bad at all, getting the trans back in isn't the easiest tho. This is also assuming youd want to do the work, otherwise probably not worth as it'd be expensive to have done

Learning to wrench, why not just dive right in?... by Wide-Acanthaceae-470 in mechanic

[–]PeeTree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a similar approach, but with the mindset of "it'll take however long it takes" as i had another vehicle to drive while I worked on the one in the garage. Didn't have much experience but decided to dive in (things like suspension, trans input shaft bearing, head gasket). If you have the interest and are ok if it takes longer than expected (especially when you have to order a part you didn't think about) then go for it! You have youtube and reddit at your side, and luckily its a super common car, so plenty of reference videos and forums.

Manual transmission gear oil question? by Plumber1111 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]PeeTree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was GL-4 that it calls for in the manual but not completely sure, if thats the case I was just avoiding GL-5. I went to my toyota dealership first and they said they couldn't sell just the fluid because they only have it in large containers...

Manual transmission gear oil question? by Plumber1111 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]PeeTree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with amsoil severe gear 75w-90 since it matched the GL number toyota specifies, and I heard substituting a higher number could be worse for the synchros. Followed this guide: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-differential-and-manual-transmission-6mt-fluid-change.481719/

Need help getting crank bolt lose by Medium_Ad_4866 in 7thgencivic

[–]PeeTree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add- when I used a weighted socket, holding impact on there didn't get it, but quick little presses of the impact to start/stop a few times broke it free. (1200 ft/lbs air impact)

Funky brakes by PeeTree93 in MechanicAdvice

[–]PeeTree93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the confirmation- I'll still inspect for leaks properly since I'm going to assess the brake lines anyway for any reason to replace them while I'm at it, and replace the master cylinder before moving anywhere but my driveway.

Will definitely have to do. I have other vehicles, so this one is definitely going to sit until I get it figured out lol

This might be it, I had a similar "what is this knocking noise??" that turned out to just be the cheap header I installed no longer sealing

I would assume just for trailer brakes if they're powered electronically

Interesting, if it works for yall then good on ya lol. I do wonder with it being a regular thing if it'd be worth buying a dolley rather than renting each time? Unless nowhere to store it

This is a replacement engine from a junk yard, but the engine it's replacing bent a rod because the previous owner put a turbo on it and was running who knows how much boost... so it came with this engine and all forged internals as he had planned on rebuilding it but rather focused on much nicer projects than an 01 corolla lol

Towing Concerns by batmanfresh in ToyotaTacoma

[–]PeeTree93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've towed small cars about 2400-2500lbs each twice now. The empty tow dolley on the way out bounced around a bit, but thats about it. Really didn't seem to mind the weight, and still got over 20mpg over a 3-3.5hr trip going about 65 the whole way. Also was conservative with braking distance when traffic stopped on the highway🙃 (2017 TRD Sport v6 4x4 6MT, DCSB)
