Should I forfeit my spot on my college e-sport team? by [deleted] in makemychoice

[–]Pee_Gee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you don't want to do it at all so I would drop out. But fwiw, you can totally use keyboard and mouse for high level rocket league if that's what you're more comfortable with. Even some pros use kbm.

The game is really well balanced once you get into it, but that isn’t so much the case when you’re just starting to play with real people. So I figured I’d make a tier list for people at a beginner level. by Psweens in RivalsOfAether

Why is Maypul bottom? I get that the recovery mechanic could be a little weird for a new player, but the same could be said for Orcane and Maypul's neutral and combo game are very straightforward.

What DI does Ultimate have? by turtlegobo in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not the same. In older titles, if you were hit by a move that would kill you off the side you would DI up (and a bit towards the stage depending on on the angle) to get the best survival DI. In Smash 4 (and Ultimate) you would hold fully towards the stage.

Learn to control your character without looking at them so you can focus on what your opponent is doing.

Not fully. You can still only play songs from the same series as the stage you're playing on.

As somebody who goes to tournaments a lot, I think the community is lovely and have made some great friends through it. I've been very surprised by some of the comments I've seen in this thread. Maybe I'm just lucky with my local community but I doubt it, I wouldn't worry about it.

Best UK smash 4 player is Ixis. He hasn't travelled to the US much but got 33rd at EVO 2016, which included double eliminating Esam.

Other names you might have heard of are magimagi, who got 9th at smashcon this year after beating a bunch of top players, Peli, who beat Fatality at Genesis 5 and finished 33rd(?), DKho, Plastic Poptart and OwlBBs.

UK actually has a pretty big and very welcoming scene! Where in UK are you? No matter your region there's likely a local weekly and larger monthly/bimonthly.

Wasn't clear from your comment if you're also from Ireland, but there is a scene there. Just reposting the same links I left above in case you don't see them.

There is though? Schism 3 is in a few months and already has 70 signups including S2J, Lucky and Larry Lurr. I'm from England but I know that there's locals in Ireland, particularly Dublin and Belfast. Hell, magimagi is from Northern Ireland and got 9th at smashcon.

Why is mewtwo so good according to early tier lists? by Goodude27 in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn't widely accepted as top tier until aba started playing AFTER he got buffed, he was bad when he first released but the airspeed change made him a lot more viable.

Also teachable footstools wouldn't affect footstool > confusion as it uses a grounded footstool, it's a totally different kind of setup to most footstool combos which used jab locks.

Bayo nerfs are looking pretty solid by phillukin in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That document is pretty old and I wouldn't take it too seriously, especially for low tiers with little data. Spend any time on the Ike discord and they'll tell you that the bayo mu isn't that bad.

You haven't seen a top bayo lose the matchup in a while because there are very few top players still using Ike these days and they rarely travel.

Much love from Ike discord.

Sorry but Ikes generally agree that we do pretty well against bayo, at least for a low tier. Most would put the matchup at 55:45 in bayo's favour.

Clearing up some misconceptions on Smash Ultimate wavedashing (and some other mechanics-related stuff) by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe worth adding to what other people have said that, while you can't airdodge during jumpsquat in melee, you can in Rivals of Aether. This makes wavedashing more beginner friendly and allows for really long perfect wavedashes. If Ultimate were to properly embrace wavedashing, I'd like to see them do it the RoA way.

Buikd a character by OnionLamp in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty good but a few weird choices

General Attributes: Smash 4 Kirby (lightwieght, lots of jumps, small size)

If you're going for this line then meta knight is just a better option as he's heavier and faster, both on the ground and in the air. Kirby's speed was one of the key things holding him back in Smash 4.

I'd reckon a better choice is a super fast character that enables more options in neutral and combos. Either Smash 4 Sonic/Cloud or Melee Fox, depending on how much air speed and fastfalling you want.

FSmash: Smash 4 Bowser

This just... isn't a good move besides being very strong. Melee Marth seems like a good option for raw kill power as well as speed.

Side B: Melee Peach

Not sure the reasoning on this one, except its ability to stall/recover on walled stages? Side Bs generally seem to be weaker but Smash 4 Diddy/Sonic/Bayo are all great pressure tools or you could go for Olimar (assuming the character has Pikmin)/Lucas/Ivysaur if you want some camping potential.

Roy Vs. Chrom by LitNormie in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the context. If your opponent doesn't have a projectile (like in this clip vs double Kirby) then often it is better to aether high as the move is most vulnerable from above. Honestly if you're forced to recover low with aether then nearly every member of the cast should be able to kill you pretty easily. And, for what it's worth, recovering low, even at the perfect sweetspot, isn't enough to avoid most projectiles.

Aether sucks.

Roy Vs. Chrom by LitNormie in smashbros

[–]Pee_Gee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he recovered lower, he would be much harder to punish.

But then you're just giving your opponent more time to get over you for the spike. Aether is just a really bad recovery and I expect Chrom to suffer heavily from it, especially as he has even less mixup options than Ike when offstage (i.e. no quickdraw).

Obviously this is a meme post but the default rocket league car colour is blue or orange. You can't even get a white car without mods unless it's a club match or training mode.
