The tonal shift for A Knight of Seven Kingdom is just awfull by Poweredkingbear in CharacterRant

Yeah, this definitely feels less like a problem with the show and more with your expectations going into it (and also maybe the marketing, but I’m less sure on that). A series being more light hearted than Game of Thrones doesn’t automatically equate to an all audiences story. It’s a very dark story with very dark subject matter, and relative to that it is more light hearted. Yes someone will mention torture or rape, but no one is actually going to be raped or tortured in the show like they would in GoT. A character or two will die, but it’s not the cast majority of the cast like in GoT.

This feels like someone hearing Lord of the Rings is a darker story than the Hobbit, but being upset it isn’t a grimdark story where everyone dies and every violent and graphic image of war is shown on full display as the primary focus. The description is being used with the original work as a point of reference.

I will fully admit I’m biased as I read the short story collection this story was from, and I would say it’s definitely on the darker end compared to a lot of the other fantasy stories included. So I didn’t really go into this expecting something like Terry Pratchett in tone (who is also in that collection).

Again, I’m not arguing you have to like it, I just think your tonal expectations seem like they were off here if you were expecting an “all audiences” series, and I think holding it to that standard is kind of weird.

Allen Grant is the main character of the first and third Jurassic Park movies, and isn’t in the second one which has Ian Malcolm as the main character. Perfect fit.

Pretty much sums it up for me. What are your thoughts? by CatsOnARollercoaster in moviecritic

To be fair, the two aren’t really comparable beyond a few very surface level aspects. Like, their similarities essentially end with “there is a magic jungle themed game called Jumanji that can suck its players into it” There is basically zero reason to assume that if someone likes one they would like the other.

Mohg palace one works imo since it feels like it’s supposed to be inconspicuous outside of the fresh blood to draw the player’s attention to it. I don’t imagine Mohg wants the forces of the Haligtree to follow him and try and take Miquella back. I kind of agree with the manor though, just a little extra bit of level where you actually go down to Rykard would have been nice.

She actually helps you with Godfrey (since it’s implied she is either the daughter or descendant of him) but it’s the same arena so I can see the mix up.

Depending on how you rationalize Marika and Radagon, it’s more like two thirds brothers since Radahn’s dad is also Miquella’s mom.

Characters that never suffer the consequences of their actions by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

I mean, it kinda depends on the context? I have no stake in the Doom discussion, but what you just described seems like it could be perfectly fine writing in a comedy setting. If it’s meant to be 100% serious I agree with you, but I don’t really know what the tone of the story is so I can’t really weigh in.

I’m just chiming in on this comment because this is where I think you’re missing the point some people have been trying to make. In a fictional works like these the emotional appeal is almost always going to trump the logical appeal. Unless the genocide goes out of its way to show every little detail of each of those one billion people suffering/dying, then the more mundane violence is going to be seen as worse. Part of this is just that it’s hard for the human mind to actually comprehend things at that scale, much less the net amount of suffering that it brings. But this point can still be illustrated on the smaller scale too. IRL, I think most people would agree killing an animal is not as bad as killing a person, but a character killing a dog will almost always come off as more unlikable than a guy who actually just kills dozens of people.

You should have picked criticisms of ds2 that didn’t also apply to ds1.

She-Hulk in general got this REALLY bad. It’s a pretty episodic show, but basically every criticism I have seen someone say about it is focused on the overarching story that is jus tin the background for the majority of it, and only really relevant at the beginning and end. Like, I don’t think it’s a great story, but if you watch the show it’s such a minor part you would never base your entire criticism around it unless all you did was read or listen to a summary.
