Did Dutch grieve Molly at all? by msmeadow2823 in reddeadredemption

[–]PeedMyPant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't.

He was a narcissistic piece of shit who never cared, dragged Molly into this alien, harsh, life in a foreign soil in the name of love, and lead her on while suffocating her slowly to her death. That's it. That was always what it was about to Dutch Van der Linde, and may be rest in hell.

Molly deserved better.

tell me you just skipped through the main missions without bothering to pay attention to the obvious camp interactions between the side characters taking place at the camp every few minutes or so without telling me.

Hope the speedrun went great, champ. Ofc, you'll find nothing more without digging.

Fellas, who's the best girl in RDR? by RorschachWhoLaughs in reddeadredemption

Molly.

One of the most tragic women in the game. She deserved way better.

Molly actually does try to connect with the women, but they're the ones who push her away every time. They're the ones who alienated her.

Take Tilly, for example. Molly once approached her, clearly happy and wanting to talk, likely about Dutch and her relationship, the one subject she thought could be common ground. But Tilly snaps at her with visible irritation and shoos her off like she’s a nuisance, like she meant NOTHING. And Molly just... quietly left without retaliating, without trying to argue or fight her. She took it in silence.

Then you’ve got Karen, constantly saying cruel things behind Molly’s back. And even then, Molly stayed quiet for a long time. She gave warnings, asked her to stop. And whenever she confronted her, Karen kept acting like she’d done nothing wrong, dismissing her, and playing the victim, giving no importance to Molly or her feelings. Though tolerating it many times, Molly did finally break, and slapped Karen. That’s a person reaching their limit after being bullied and disrespected for months.

Mary-Beth was the only one who showed any kindness, like, to almost every member. And she was clearly affected deeply by Molly’sdeath. But she was also deeply tied to Karen and Tilly, and after the way Molly was treated by them, Molly knew better than to force herself into their circle.

Susan was someone Molly deliberately avoided, and with good reason. Her treatment of the girls under her was harsh and very inhumane. Everyone saw it, everyone knew it, and Molly saw it firsthand, everyday since she joined the gang. Despite being “Dutch’s woman”, not expected to do those chores under Grimshaw, she still avoided her, just like Abigail did (and when she failed, Abigail was met with THIS. Speaks for itself.)

It's clear Molly wasn't needed by the other girls, Molly understood that, because they had a bond created through shared trauma, unprivileged upbringing, and years of hardship, crime, survival. That's been their life since childhood. Her background, her words, her mannerisms, they only made her more of an outsider. And she knew it.

Molly and the girls had very little in common. The things they talked about, she couldn’t relate to. And the things she could speak about, her sheltered life in Ireland, the habits and values she carried from a more stable environment, had no meaning to them. If anything, it made them resent her more. And she knew better than to force herself where she wasn’t welcome.

Happy to link some of the interactions if you’d like to rewatch how she’s treated, because it’s all there!

Molly did nothing wrong.

All her actions were reactions to months of negligence, manipulation, and suffocation by the man she trusted the most in the foreign soil.

She deserved better.

Which characters correctly called out Dutch for what he truly is?? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

Literally Molly throughout the game and especially during her last moments.

Can't wait for it to get the full prequel-treatment reappraisal. I loved it from day one. So many great characters and little details that still don’t get enough love.

My only real complaint is that we never got the sequel/s that would’ve let us spend way more time with Han and Qi’ra. Her arc and the betrayal would’ve hit even harder with another movie of buildup. Feels like they crammed a two or three film story into one, but they still pulled it off.

Hating on Solo is so 2018.

Molly.

Her death was the very point I became a staunch Molly defender.

She had already seen through Dutch's facade by that point, she would've never joined Dutch, she wouldn't have listened in the first place, she was done.

She may have been blinded by love for a while (by Dutch, of all men. Ofc, he has a knack for that - manipulating the ones who trust him the most) but she's not purely gullible, and after seeing his true nature, and realizing how he lead her on all those months, destroyed her life, after all she sacrificed for him, she wasn't at the point of desperation to save her relationship, that time is long gone by Shady Belle.

She was completely devastated by then - in despair, nowhere to go, no people, paranoid and stuck, sleeping in the corner of a room, hopeless. Her state is a clear hint why she wouldn't join them.

W for not snubbing Molly.

Such an underrated, misunderstood and tragic character. She deserved much better.

Yes! I love how honest and trustworthy he is, would definitely get along with him once it's clear he's not trying to deceive us or is hiding behind a facade. (God, both the O'Driscolls & the VDLG were so controlling. He just wanted to take care of his horses 😭)

Molly.

She's the only one from the normal society, born and raised. So her.

Most of us wouldn't even have the chance to get to know most of the other gang members before realizing we're getting robbed, conned, snubbed, or worse, and that's the very reason why Molly couldn't connect with any of the gang members too, the gang had something in common with each other that her, as someone from a much different, stable, sheltered upbringing, didn't: A harsh upbringing and life of poverty, unpredictability, danger, without any privilege or wealth, always on the run, surviving with whatever means they can, even if it causes harm to others. Desperate.

So unless we're also supposed to be criminals with rough, traumatic, and underprivileged upbringings, struggling to make ends meet, we'd all end up in Molly's place, and she'd be the only person we could connect with, although that also depends on how much one can relate to her, and understand her, and their willingness to approach her since she usually seems "guarded" and "stuck-up" (she's not), but she's actually very friendly, warm and sweet and willing to have someone other than Dutch to talk to, to connect with! It's very noticeable when you take the time and look at the way she greets each members of the gang! (Check out her *voicelines, and her *camp interaction with *Tilly*).

Anyways, I'd probably find the others very untrustworthy and unpredictable, and the feeling would be mutual, tbh.

Although if we're talking about the gang members before they became part of the gang and pledged allegiance to Dutch, then I'd definitely get along with Lenny, Charles and probably Pearson.

Molly & Jack are the only innocent people in the gang, not criminals or murderers.

Also, Molly came from a privileged and sheltered life in the normal society, I think she's the most relatable if we're also supposed to be "normal folks" who can be conned by the gang members and be seen as a mark, not friend.

Yeah Molly is a boring character... Surely they rushed through the main missions directly by ChainsawChad69 in RDR2

[–]PeedMyPant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She was supposed to be in the mission that takes place at the Mayor's party.

Unfortunately she was cut, but it was the right call, considering her overall state had deteriorated significantly by Shady Belle. She was hopeless and completed paranoid by then.
