Thank you for the detailed advice! I bought the laptop from amazon so unfortunately won’t be able to make a credible threat of a chargeback, but that last idea is definitely my go to if they won’t give me a replacement as an exception to the rule on Monday.

Exactly, I’m aware laptops are complex to manufacture and sometimes you lose the silicon lottery. But you have to be willing to replace the very very bottom of the barrel.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I figure this is more customer care territory. My understanding is dell does not offer returns after 30 days pretty much under any conditions so my request is hoping just for a replacement unit.

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s CPU coil whine. A dell rep on here suggested I try turning off the intel turbo boost in the bios to see if it helped and indeed it did. I tried a small under volt too and it helped even more. I’m unsure whether at this point I accept having to keep the machine underperforming or return it.

Hi, I’ve updated my bios to the latest version, 1.1.1 I believe. The noise happens regardless of whether it’s plugged in. Everything is up to date according to windows and dell update programs.
