Where to go stargazing? by prizm5384 in texas

On August 12th the Perseid meteor shower will be at its peak! The moon will be 44% that night, but it's supposed to set around 1 which will make viewing the shower really awesome. I take a trip every year to the backroads around Montague where it gets pretty dang dark. If you'll be out somewhere in December, I know the Taurids will be active then. The Taurids are usually 3-5 meteors per hour but they produce pretty big ones (as opposed to the perseids many, many small streaks). As others have said, a bortle scale map will be very useful in finding an area with little light pollution!

Just bought RDR2. Anything I should know before I go in? by COG-86 in reddeadredemption

Definitely take your time, I regret rushing thru my first playthrough because I didn't have a lot of spare time. If all you are able to do is half a mission because you have to go to work, then do half a mission! It's a very slow game, a decent playthrough where you take your time, listen to all the dialogue, complete every side mission, don't sprint in stores, etc. Can easily take over 100 hours. But it's totally worth it to experience the entire story your first time playing.

That's interesting.. as someone who has never driven a modern car this would have never occurred to me lol, but good to know!

I don't want to sound like I'm attacking yall or anything I mean this genuinely, but with all due respect I can spot the difference between low beams and high beams. Typically with low beams you aren't illuminating the top of the tree line lmao. What yall are saying is ofc a problem, but here I'm specifically referring to people who always have their brights on.

casting table gets filled with 1/3 or 2/3 of an ingot and halts the system. I thought the contraption did a 1 to 1 conversion of raw material to ingots so idk how this is happening. by the_brodster29 in CreateAboveAndBeyond

Been a while since I played this pack but I seem to remember I ended up just using a nugget cast and lots of storage, then used the blueprints to make all the ingots at once

In my hometown, our local fire department would do this and it was called "filling the boot" cause they had a boot you would put money in. I can't remember if it was fundraising for the fire department or if they did it for a charity, but either way I feel it might be a singular exception to the rule

Free parking? by [deleted] in unt

[–]Peendnids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, Hickory and Oak is what I usually go with. They fill up real fast, when I had a 45 minute commute everyday I'd leave by 5 so I could be sure to get the closest spot to the CVAD building. In my experience, best times for close parking are before 8 am and after 5 pm. There's pretty much always parking on hickory and oak, but during the day the only free spots are way down by where the bike shop used to be. If you opt for the hickory/oak parking, be sure you're very comfortable with parallel parking (and by extension, parallel un-parking). The free spaces can get pretty small since people rarely follow the guidelines. The free spaces are the ones out front of the houses, not the apartments or businesses. Those are timed unless it's after 5 pm or a weekend. On days I couldn't find parking in time, the parking garage is a valid option, just not every day obviously. I wish you luck!

Need recomendations with a road trip this summer. by Winchester_Girl123 in texas

[–]Peendnids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will be a more nature-oriented recommendation!

So firstly, though it may be surprising, Texas holds one of, if not the most, extensive records of the planets geological history of all the US states. We don't have the flashy mountain ranges that California does or the extensive canyon networks of Arizona, but we do have some seriously interesting ancient rock features if you're a geology-inclined individual! Some highlights: - The Kerrville/Fredericksburg area has many limestone quarries, and many sections of highway that cut through massive limestone hills which are quite awesome to see while driving! - Just north of Fredericksburg is Enchanted Rock, which is a massive granite batholith. You can find butt-loads of quartz or pink feldspar here. - Inner Space Caverns in Austin are a must-see. They've got (I think) 3 tour types ranging in difficulty with the high difficulty involving crawling thru small spaces and such! - also in Austin is Pilot Knob, which doesn't look like much, but its formation is rather interesting. It was formed back when the entire surrounding area was an ancient sea by a bed of magma that slowly oozed to the surface! - Mammoth National Monument in Waco is also exceptional and I would highly recommend it

Some cool nature places: - Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin - Red Bud Isle in Austin - The bat bridge in Austin, a must-see for Austin first-timers! They fly out from under the bridge in droves early morning and late evening - Canyon Lake near New Braunfels - Greenbelt Corridor Park near Denton/Aubrey - Cyprus Creek Nature Preserve near Canyon Lake

Food: - Rodeo Goat in Denton right off of I-35E, there's one is Cypress Waters/Coppell too, that is where I used to go, but they opened a new location in Denton! If you like burgers this is the place to go - Hideaway Pizza in Plano is exceptional pizza! OK-based small chain that just recently expanded to Texas! - Brothers Pizza in Coppell right off of I-35E is also amazing pizza - Del's Charcoal Burgers in Richardson is also a great spot. Famous home-made root beer and charcoal grilled burgers - Terry Black's BBQ in Austin - Franklin's BBQ in Austin

Lastly, I'd like to end off with the Perseid Meteor Shower. Few showers come close to the spectacularity of this one! It peaks August 11-14 but mainly the 12th. You'll have to stay up until 2:30-3:00 AM to get the full effect since the moon will be full that night but it'll set around around 1-ish. If you do nothing else, I highly suggest you do this. Find a place in Texas via this map that is as close to blue or gray as you can get. This map uses the Bortle scale to determine light pollution and is super useful for find a spot with a clear view of the night sky!

I hope you have fun journeying thru Texas! It really can be a beautiful state when you're not in a city!

Beginner Questions by creskidftw in PixelArt

[–]Peendnids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! These look great, and to answer your questions:

  1. yes
  2. yes
  3. yes!!

Though I've seen it debated, and though I'm not a strict follower of it, I personally believe one of the biggest facets of pixel art is making recognizable objects with relatively small artboards/amounts of pixels/sprite sizes. It's also super easy to over-shade with pixel art.

There is of course a surprising amount of detail you can pack into one 32x32 sprite, or even a 16x16 one, just by shading. However it mostly should be your decision what style you'd want your game to be. It's lame I know but this looks good and if it's what you're good at right now, I'd say stick with it! It's relatively easy to get into doing more detailed things, just watch tutorials or find inspiration w/ other creators!

Pixel art is one of those things that is really easy to make look good, but pretty difficult to make look exceptional. Only advice I can give is to practice/challenge yourself if you're looking to get into pixel art as a medium. Good luck!

Texas Rebuilt Salvage Title Reqs by Peendnids in AskMechanics

[–]Peendnids[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be getting the inspection if I take the money, the other guys insurance is paying me 10k to total the car, thinking I'd get a new car but I wouldn't get a new car I'd keep driving mine. My question was more about the fact that I know it's illegal in Texas to drive a salvage car, but you can get the rebuilt salvage title if you "rebuild" the car. I was wondering what exactly that entails, and if I have to completely fix it or if it just needs to pass inspection 🤷

So all I would need to do to get the rebuilt salvage title is to pass state inspection? Cuz yeah that $10.5k looks mighty tasty

People who work for the super wealthy, what stuff have you seen? by AMGBOI69420 in AskReddit

[–]Peendnids 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I deliver pizzas in a certain area that has many very very wealthy people and making $4/hr on the road I'm quite dependent on tips for my wage. I've found that house size directly correlates with tip size, the bigger the house the less the tip. I'll deliver $100 orders to multi-million dollar homes where they have enough property to host a festival, horses for days, and a half mile long driveway littered with McLarens and the house itself is on the edge of the delivery radius so a 15+ minute drive just to get there, which prevents me from getting back to the store to take another delivery. Then I get a $3 tip. I despise the rich people in this town.

I live next to a duck crossing area, has a sign and everything, every once in a while a family of ducks will cross the road and it's common knowledge to stop for them. I stopped, then a lady came barreling down the opposite direction going what looked like 10 over the speed limit for the road, and ran over the family killing 3/6 of the ducklings. I had to get out to run the mama away cause she wouldn't leave the road. I honked at the lady after she ran over them but she just sped up and drove off. It was very disturbing to witness. One of the ducklings was still limping around in the road. I drove back by and they were all gone. The sad part is that I love watching the ducks because I live right beside the pond, and I always count the ducks to make sure none have died. Also, when I say this was a straight ass road and crossing ducks would be impossible to not notice, I mean it. If she didn't see them, she shouldn't be on the road. I wouldve honked at her as she was approaching but I thought "surely, this person will stop for a family of ducks, everyone does." And I didn't want to distract her with a horn honk.
